I don't know how much your car is worth or how you like to keep it.
But most of these systems can be bypassed.

Garages tend not to be to good at vehicle electronics, and the bin and replace it at great cost is the only way they know.

I would try to seek a more specialised electronics approach.

The electrics that keep a car engine running are not that complicated, and in my experience if your not too bothered or you car is a little bit older electronic bodges are cheap and cheerful.

Most good aa men know how to limp a cars electronics home.

why didnt you buy a honda:D

electrics on a 99 ka shouldnt be too complicated, take it to a good auto electrician. i would prob fix it but im miles away;)

an electrical mechanic already seen it, due to having to call him in and diagnosing the problem took a week and a half alone!

I dunno if you can trade in a car that needs work. Maybe some car salesmen would be willing to take it in anyway for a bit of money off on their part? I dunno, ask some of the car salesmen here because to not have a car for that long would drive me ABSOLUTELY MENTAL!

A garage will fleece you on the trade in if the car is faulty, doesn't matter how small the problem is. Get it fixed first. The Ka should be the same as a Fiesta (anyone stand to correct me?) so the parts should be easy to come by. Maybe when you are asking fo rthe Ka part it is not as immediately obvious. Why don't you og to the Ford garage & ask fo ra price on the exact part you need? When you're there ask if the part is the same as is on the Fiesta?

    Hi,

If you can find out which system is fitted I can tell you what your options are. Post or PM me the engine code, 3 letters on plate under bonnet, engine size, any numbers on ECU label etc.
Also if you can find out what wire is burned as it may be possible to repair the ECU.

Ok dude thanks for talking to my mechanic!! Any advice given I'm so grateful!
Basically my dad just explained it to me altogether I need an ECU with the right coding set for my model car /to find a 2nd hand one with the coding for my car (due to security reason's) the chances are slim to nil and I’ll probably wait anything from 6 day's to 6 month's waiting on one
so I have to fork out money to Ford for a new ECU with the right security coding which ain't gonna be cheap
Which mean I’ll have to buy a less newer car when I sell this one?

God that was a mouthful :)

Why do these things have to happen to me!! No car for nearly a month and stuck travelling from Clonshaugh to Sandyford everyday in **** weather

Anyway now I’m forking out for the part I’ll keep ya's updated

Thank God it's not... If it was, every scumbag in the country would know about it.

The world would be a safer place if they restricted their joyriding to Ford Kas. :)

I am surprised that secondhand immobilisers cannot be recoded. It would hardly be a security risk, much less of one if some security parameter was required from ford before it could take place.

    Hi,

There are a few options with this.

Used ECU with immob/key sourced either here or in the uk.
Used ECU coded in by someone with the correct equipment.
ECU possibly could be repaired in the uk.

The immob can be bypassed but not easily. the OP mentioned it had burnt wires so I imagine it needs an ECU rather than just an immob repair.
