Had a quick look and translated a few German threads that say its reputable. But the payment system seems to be via a bank transfer. I dont know what come back you have on this unlike a credit card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,464 ✭✭✭daveyjoe

Yeah, bank transfer is used by a lot of German websites. It makes for cheaper shopping but it also takes away the comfort zone that credit card transactions give you.

Having said that, if you do a bit of research and they seem reputable then you should be ok.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,719 ✭✭✭kaisersose77

The germans hate credit cards/paypal , you'll be lucky to find any sites that accept those. My brother ordered pc stuff off hardwareversand a few times and never had a problem.

whats with those tinyurls btw? ppl would think the site is dodgy just looking at those even if it just brings you to the site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,378 ✭✭✭✭jimmycrackcorm

I too have had to use bank transfers with the Germans. It used to be so much hassle before my bank added on an online feature to do it.

    What bank is that jimmy?

Thanks for the feeback, any idea how long the transaction usually takes with a bank transfer? I would guess that this method is just as secure as credit cards given there is a record of the transaction, or where does an issue arise? is it if there is a default on delivery and you want your payment back?
whats with those tinyurls btw?
I just find it handy to abbreviate long urls....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭CivilServant

You'd be wrong there. Once the money is transferred, the bank has no power to return the money in the case of fraud. At that point it becomes a criminal matter and you'll have to jump through a lot of hoops to get anything done at all. Credit card is much much safer.

which makes the quest for people with first hand experience dealing with these site even more important..

Where were those translated reviews found?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,719 ✭✭✭kaisersose77

search hardwareversand on boards and your bound to get info about them. Theres nothing at all dodgy about them, if you check out german google, that tv is as low as 550. Theres loads of great germans sites for buying hardware like hardwareversand.de, hoh.de, technikdirekt.de etc . And they show you how much of a rip off places like komplett are for most stuff. The only problem with buying something like this would be the hassle if something went wrong with the tv and getting it fixed or replaced. Takes up to 5 working days for them to get your money roughly. Nevermind ppl saying there dodgy because they dont accept credit card, they never bought anything online from germany before if thats the case.

The only person who used the word dodgy is you. My point was that bank transfer is not as safe as credit card, which is a fact. And for your information I have bought from german sites many times, with bank transfer and credit card, and from other countries, america and japan with no unforeseen problems. I have also RMA'd a german graphics card that was paid COD, with no problems.

Yes that's correct. The more reviews the better, and even then you need to take everything with a pinch of salt. Here's a thread from a while ago http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054935722

A boardsie user Maxwell bought his tv from katronics.de and he ended up with a good deal, unfortunately that is not always the case. At the end of the thread there's this link http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3945665

I also had a run in with a german company, and after tonnes of hassle got my money back. There's a learning curve but once you got the hang of it, you'd never buy expensive items from Irish shops again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 712 ✭✭✭GG66

I'd read bad reports about Katronics on avforums today alright..someone claims to have been stung for 2500eu. Ouch.

In any case, I've been trying to convince my sister on the benefits of buying online and she's not at all convinced about paying by Bank Draft even if the price is better.

Techdirekt take CCs and seem to have a very good reputation based on these reviews so I reckon she'll run with them.

I assume the manufacturers warranty should cover all EU states?

Hardwareversand.de are very decent to deal with and have a few bargains at times. The only downside is the money transfer, having to go to the bank is a pain, but other than that I've only had good experiences with them including their customer services.

Argos have a 32" LCD HD ready for €600.

Did you ever buy anything as large as a TV from them? or have to return anything? Just seems it would be a pin shipping a faulty TV back to them..

Don't know about the OP's site but would give a big thumbs up to technik direkt. They have actually provided the best service I've ever received online and i've been shopping online for ages.

Some fantastic bargains to be had there too, and they provide a 2 year car warranty as standard.

Yeah, please post how you get on, how long it takes etc.. I won't be ready to buy for a couple of weeks so you should have yours by then.

Do you know if this TV can be used as a PC monitor as well as TV?

There's a bit of a jump from 20eu to 80eu alright. I've no idea why but 20eu does seem cheap to deliver a TV from Germany.......

I ordered 32" Samsung from Technikdirekt about a month ago for €659. Great quality and value. Xbox 360 absolutely rocks on this! You can't find better bargain in Ireland.

Ps. Didn't realize that we have so many channels broadcasting in 16:9 since I've always had 4:3 screen.

got my 32" lcd, 2 weeks after ordering which is quite good.

    full details on my blog.

2 weeks is pretty swift considering bank transfer delays...

Any idea what sort of after sales service there is or warranty?

I ordered the following 32" lcd tv for €670 inc delivery from the following German Website http://www.topvision-online.de/details.html?item=739922229451112ec4d761&sessid=117782023845eec414bc564&highlights=
I went for a good brand Samsung and I ordered it on the 21st February and it is currently in shipping and I am expecting delivery on Friday. It comes with a two year Guarantee and worked out about €200 cheaper than price on komplett.ie and €125 cheaper than Pixmania.ie.
I want it for a bedroom but didnt wanna pay any more than €650 .Time from order to delivery is about 2 weeks and the company generally do all communications thru e-mail from my experience .
    Think its a bargain

That is a good price :) Wasn't aware of that site.

I just ordered this for my sister from http://technikdirekt.de for €780 delivered. :(

It's on http://www1.hardwareversand.de for 694 delivered but my sister wasn't comfortable giving a bank transfer so went with the above because of excellent online reviews, in stock, accept cr. cards offering some protection.

Do topvision-online accept cr. cards? as I may consider them when I need a new TV myself. Would also be interested to hear how you get on with delivery and end product

    Good luck

When i clicked on ireland on the drop down location box on topvision-online the price jumped by 120euro! Now the site remembers my IP address and displays higher prices than when i looked at german domestic site beforehand.

I ordered a 32" sammy from technikdirekt, they say it was dispatched on the 13th of March and takes about a week to deliver. The delivery is by a 3rd party company who will ring to arrange the delivery details. Total cost was about 660 inc del and vat etc

    @ronbyrne

think the site is fecked up atm, as it displayed the irish price fine but then said 720 for the german section. It was fine the other day. There seems to be a problem with the country drop down box. You will eventually get the correct irish price if you mess about for a minute (search le32s71b). Its only 588 euros for ppl in the uk.

    Hi,

Question for those that have bought 32" LCD TV from Germany, whats the story on customs and tax!

Is it safe to get it delivered from Germany? Any problems from anyone?

    Thanks Ronan.

Bought a 21 inch JVC Tv from them. Delivered in one week by Interlink. All taxes are included. No problems. Excellent company to deal with.

How does Samsung LE-32R32B look on standard digital tv such as chorus digital?
Any problems with ghosting, colour or black levels?
If I ordered it off hardwareversand site how long guarantee would I get?

Would I have to send it back to Germany if anything went wrong with it?

On technikdirekt you see the example below

VAT included + pick- up charge
    170,-

As someone who has never used this site does it cost 170 for the whole lot inc p&p?

    thanks

170 includes VAT, P+P is extra. Shipping ranges from 22eu for small items to 80euro for large (e.g. a TV)

email them to find out how much shipping will be or add it to basket and go through checkout process and see what it adds on, before you decide to pay.

They're fantastic, honestly. Two weeks after they debit my credit card I emailed them to ask where the TV was, or if they had a tracking number. A week later they reply to say sorry, they haven't sent a TV yet, it's on backorder and they don't know when they'll have them back in stock.

I'll order from someone else instead, lets hope it doesnt take them 3 weeks to refund me. :(
