Sony walkman MP3 question

My walkman went evil on me today. Connected it to my laptop to upload new songs like I often do and it looks like it's wiped every single song....when I turn it on now there's no songs on it and it says "No Database found, Please connect compliant software"....but when I connect it to Sonic stage it says the device has not been updated and starts updating but always stops a few minutes later saying it can't update it. Don't suppose you know what I've done? I didn't do anything different to what I always do....and now not only has it wiped all the songs but I can't put new ones on it either. Can anyone help? :( Thanks.

depending on the model .... there is a manual reset button - use a paperclip or pin - that should sort it
