    Hi,

(hope this is the correct section for this post if not can this be moved to the correct area)

Myself and a businerss partner are setting up several web based businesses. we are now looking for an experienced web developer to join us as a shareholder in the company.

We are not looking for any outlay just some development time, in return we offer a share in the company.

I can give you full details on request.

    Please mail me at marc_smyth@yahoo.com

    THanks

    Marc

Marc, sorry my post isn't very constructive, but you do realise that to a web developer, development time is outlay. Particularly to an experienced one.

If I had taken up every offer over the years, I would be a shareholder in a lot of websites but wouldn't have earned a penny.

Don't take it as criticism of your idea(s) but do take it on board.

As misterq point’s out, developers – particularly experienced ones – get approached on a regular basis. Here is part of the reply I gave one last month:
Problem for you is that people with technical knowledge get approached on the Internet every day with ventures such as your own. Most of the time it's a vague idea that hasn't been properly thought out and the proposition adds up to little more than "will you build my site for free". Those emails get deleted very quickly.

As such I strongly recommend that you define what your proposition is and where it will make it's money, then define a partnership deal that will be worth the while of a developer or company in the medium to long run. Only then should you, for example, turn to developer or industry mailing lists, forums or the like to find someone.

After all if anyone is presented with a good offer of partnership in something that looks to be successful, you will genuinely have very little difficulty getting them on board.
As such, if you’ve done your homework on it then it would be advisable to point this out when looking for someone. Letting people know that you’ve done research, a cost benefit analysis, a business plan, sought funding or the like is going to get you far more serious enquiries than a “I’ve an idea but haven’t put any effort into it – would you like to put effort into it for free?” approach.

Depends. If they’ve done the necessary business analysis on the project you might be right, if not all they’ll get is someone who will put together an application that will not work commercially. Outsourced developers do exactly that – develop – nothing more. There’s a lot more to a successful venture than development alone.

Even then, having someone ‘in house’ whom can also be ‘customer facing’ is essential to any venture. Even companies that outsource their work will always have at least one consultant who can interface with clients, the company and the outsourced developers.

From the little information the OP has given their technical knowledge appears limited at best. I could be wrong, but if not they would be very foolish to engage an outsource outfit alone.

There's Indian Cowboys too. There's more to Website development than having a code monkey.
