Hi, Im new to mp3 and am thinking of getting a Creative zen 30 gb. What I would like to know is what is the best site for downloading albums, not just single tracks. I would like to archive my vinyl collection (yes I am that old) and the easiest way would be to purchase complete albums. Thanks.

hmm...if you own the vinyl you can probably download the mp3s for free legally...although I'm not sure about that.

I think the best place is iTunes to be honest, I think it has the largest selection...

iTunes sells tracks in m4a format which will not work on any Creative player. You're best bet would probably be to buy the cds online and rip them yourself and put them on your mp3 player. I realise that means buying them twice but there's no real viable option at the moment to buy full albums through download without using iTunes and even then it's not that much cheaper.

Irish copyright law does not allow you to copy music you have legally purchased. So having the vinyl does not mean you can freely download the album and ironically it means you cannot technically legally rip your own purchased cds and put them on your DAP.

You could always buy one of these...

Takes a bit of time but worth it though for the results in ripping vinyl. Very effective product.

I dunno, I don't know if I'd trust my credit card on it either :P

Do Napster have an Irish site?

My dad downloaded free (legal!) software that meant he transferred all his vinyl from the record player into the computer and turned them into music files. He has an ipod but I'm sure you could transfer them to other files too. All he had to buy was the right wire to connect the record player into the computer.

I can't remember what the programme is called but I can ask when my dad (he's away at the moment)

He was so thrilled when he found the software. He said 50 years worth of music has been resurrected!
