Having got over Sundays dissapointment , and looking forward to the English match , but while its still fresh in our minds -- will the Irish / French World cup game be as close ?
I think we'll overcome Argentina ok, but do people expect France to do us over again at the World Cup, hopefully not like last time down in Australia !
I know its a long way off , but

Given the scheduling that is a real tricky one for O'Sullivan. We play France third (of four games) and Argentina fourth. That should be the decider so does EOS forfeit the game against France by discovering various hamstring pulls, groin strains and bicep tears among his top players which heal miraculously in time for the ARgentinian match or does he go all out to try to win both?

Remember the 'prize' for finishing second in our 'Group of Death' ie the one with ARgentina in it, is a quarter final against NZ in Cardiff.

Methinks he should go all out and have a real go at the French. Nothing to lose.

I think Ireland pushed France hard enough to show they're up there with France. The fact is France were a minute away from losing the game, Ireland had two very real try scoring opertunities in the second half, where another referee might have made a differance. Performance-wise Ireland got off to a rubbish start and were sloppy, and maybe should have done better in the last minute, but really I think luck played it's part in the last minute try. Ireland were the stonger team for most of the match in my opinion, even with what was described as a more limited pool of players. The Wales match was slightly worrying though, as luck went irelands way and it still took a long time to kill wales off, again the performance didn't seem to be consistant through the match, but when things clicked they did look great.

What happens in the world cup will probably come down to the same factors which effected the last two games, will key players be fit (still a big issue for ireland, but maybe not as big an issue as in the past), can the team sustain a high level of performance for the whole game (I'm worried about that) and probably a fair bit on luck. Hopefully luck won't be needed too much if the players are fit and the performances from the team is as good as it can be.

I think if Ireland are serious about doing well in the competition they have to put out their best team each match, if somebodies carrying an injury thats only going to get worse, you don't play them, if they're fit enough, they play France, as France is a game the team can win.

This just reminded me, I have tickets for all of our world cup games, right up to the final. So happy days, I cant wait :D

    [Sorry to gloat!]

Anyway, we are long past the time when we dont try against one team to save ourselves to beat another. The fact is that we are one of the 4 or 5 times that have a very real chances of winning the world cup - anyone who does not think that has been watching a different team than me over the last few years :)

A realistic goal is to be undefeated in our group.

Based on the game last week, we shouldn't fear France in the WC. If we have our strongest XV available to us, we can definitely beat them, make no mistake. A few injuries to key players, and it'll be a different story then alright. The disappointment of (probably) not winning the 6N's this year, should spur us on to greater heights in the biggest competition of them all!!!

Is anyone looking for accomodation in wales for the France v Ireland World Cup pool match?

We have a room in a bed and breakfast only 15 minutes out of town. My dad cannot go and the room has two single beds.

    Hi Littlespoon,

Change the booking to one double bed and I'd be interested.

    Yours Patiently,

    Bigspoon.
