Soreness from running

    Quick question for any runners out there.

    I have started doing a lot of distance running recently, about 10k 3 or 4 times a week. I'd say I'm reasonably fit, play rugby quite a bit too.

    lately, I keep on getting a really sore pain in my lower back as I run, normally about the 3/4k mark, and it gets worse as I run, to the point where I have to stop completely.

    I've been told that maybe I should go and see a podiatrist (if that's the right word..the feet people! Always get mixed up with pediatrist) as it might be a question of posture when Im running rather than anything else.

    Anyone ever have experience in this...kinda asking because I don't want to waste money going to see a podiatrist more than anything else!

    Any advice appreciated!

    first stop should be the physio to see what the injury is. he/she can then point you to the root cause, which may or may not be your gait. I get lower back pain sometimes, but always when I increase mileage too quickly. It could be that you just aren't used to the stress the running puts on your back, the physio will likely give you exercises to strengthen your core which will help..

    What Daveym says.

    The Physiotherapist can tell you whether you need further podiatric investigation or if there is something else going on in your back. It is probably something very simple.
