Anyone hear the proposal on 98fm?

Even though this happened on the radio, I thought, considering the point of it, that it's more suitable to After Hours.

Anyway, some poor sap proposed to his girlfriend live on air, only to have her freak out and start swearing at him saying that she's been trying to dump him for weeks. It was hilarious and cringeworthy. I haven't been able to listen to it since, so I was praying it was a joke (I really felt sorry for the guy :D ).

So, my point is, has anyone else here have any horror stories of this sort to celebrate Singles Awarness Day?

And does anyone else feel that too many people are feeling too much pressure to declare their love etc today?

ouch... crash and burn, poor guy

there was that link that everyone was sending around a while ago, of a guy who found out his girlfriend was cheating on him after he had bought an engagement ring. The radio show rang her pretending to be the jeweller, then told her she was a cheating b!tch and he was off on holiday with the money he got back on the ring... not sure if it was real/fake though

never heard of any real life examples of this though...

It was brilliant, cheered me up before I got out of bed, she called him a di*k head on air and the presenters had to calm her down. They they went to a long ad break while they sorted things out.

    Classic.
What a way to get kicked in the balls. His parents must be so proud.

Was listening to it in the car, i kind of felt sorry for the guy. But tbh i thought it sounded like a bit of a joke. The guy just sounded, i don't know how to put it, but it sounded like it was staged. Would love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation off air!

oh my god, the poor guy, although , maybe he was a dillusioned di*khead...once, my ex sent me back the engagement ring he had given me, (but i left with him when i left him), he honestly thought we would get back together, he certainly was a dillusioned di*ckhead...

That's hilarious, what tool would think proposing on the radio was romantic or even a good idea?

There was another guy on Ray D'Arcy this morning who got Ray to ring up some girl to ask her out from him. She said yes, but only after what sounded like a hesitant pause. She probably felt sorry for him. Wouldn't be surprised if she didn't go ahead with it as getting a DJ to ask you out, live on the radio, is both sad and creepy.

There are some awful muppets in the world, good thing too as it's quite entertaining.

I think you two should be held to that :D

Regarding the topic, poor guy, then again, some girls are just heartless freaks like that...just unfortunate that it was live on air!

Anyone got a clip/upload of it?

wheres that link of the indian tricked by his wife on air to admit he was having an affair??

    absolutely quality stuff :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,986 ✭✭✭Red Hand

Such a corny thing to do! On air? Sheesh...some people. If it was real, then I would feel sorry for the guy, but also for the girl. Put under pressure!

He might as well have held a gun to his head and threatened to pull the trigger if she didn't marry him!

Why would he propose over the radio/ telephone? It's different, but not really romatic - is it?
Just take her to a nice restaurant next time!

a couple should have done it

rang up darcy and pretended to like her and ask her out. She says yes. free champagne and roses for her, and nice meal free for the two of them

I heard it and thought it was a joke but I had to leave before he finished (or rather *she* finished with him).

Something about it made me think it was staged.

    Funny nonetheless!

do fm104 do podcasts of previous shows?

does anyone have a link to it?

Yeah the fm104 one yesterday was definatly not staged, the presenters were completely in bits afterwards as was the poor guy.
What i don't get is why they didn't cut it off, i mean the woman had time to get hysterical, call him a muppet, a dickhead, say she had being trying to get rid of him for weeks and that she wanted to leave him and travel australia. The presenters are all new to the show too and why they didn't at least brief her or something at the start, the whole thing was just a disaster.

On a related note, what happened to the 98fm Wedding a few years ago, two people who had never met before got married, 50,000 euro was spent on it for them. Last I heard they were giving it a go....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 129 ✭✭Jocksy

Take it from somebody who knows FM104 well, this 'proposal' was staged. All these wild public partner ring ins are. I mean look, every common handicap in Dublin is probably talking about this today in work and on here.
Lots of free publicity for FM104. Well done all of you.

Believe it or not. I am the guy that was on Ray Darcy. I am nither sad or creepy but i believe quite romantic and ballsy. Talking to Tara wednesday night on she was buzzing. Four seasons meal out, bot of champagne and chocs. Is going to be brillant.

On another note was talking to Mairead Farrell for about an hour. And she repeatedly asked if i was genuine as last year. They did the same, but someone set it up with his girlfriend on the sly. Everything free. Though it was quite funny

This is the radio show from post 2, with the "diamond" and a few others.

Was something similar on Ray D'Arcy show a few years ago. Guy rang in and proposed to Girlfriend on Air. After he popped question there was silence on other end then she said she couldn't. (Not as vicious as FM104) There was silence in the Studio too!!

Turns out Ray & Team were set-up.
