macbook pro & usb card reader problem

Later on I got a message, something along the lines of "device removed unexpectedly", but no I didn't unplug the reader or take out the card without ejecting the drive.

Given that I'm new to the whole mac thing at the moment it's probably something basic I'm missing... Hopefully... Can anyone give me any pointers on how to get the card reader working again?
