How much use is a large SD card anyway?

You can't save Virtual Conosle games onto an SD card, can you? And save games don't take up that much space.

I thought you can save VC games on sd cards. It sucks if you cant because that means you only have 512MB for all of teh console updates, saves,vc games etc. that is REALLY small!!!

Anything you've bought you can download as many times as you want though.

that cant be right either! u have to be able to store them on the SD Card! thats the whole point of it! why else would they have the super mega strong built in DRM?? its so ya cant download a game and transfer it over to ur mates Wii, as its tagged to each Wii or sum such. besides, VC games are the sole reason for me gettin the SD Card. couldnt give a shart about gettin photographs or whatever on the message board. Same with the custom soundtracks. don't think Chili Peppers or Snow Patrol would suit Wii Sports or Zelda!

I bought a 2GB card coming up to the Wii launch before I realised that anything you want to actually access must be moved onto the system.

I guess I'll use it for custom soundtracks in Excite Truck for the moment.

Hopefully a system update might allow bigger cards and VC games to be downloaded straight-to-SD, then we could get some bigger "CD based" games. That or allow USB external harddrives.

I'm pretty sure there is a function in Wii Data Management to copy VC games from internal memory to SD. The only problem is that the savegames cannot be copied to the SD.

Yeah, you can put a copy of VC games on your SD card. A backup of it.

I'd say the most it can use is a 2gb card. The new highier capicity SD cards that are coming out now are mostly HCSD, which the card reader has to support. The 4gb non-HCSD cards can be a bit picky aswell, I've heard them not working in certin cameras, I'm not sure about the Wii.

Sure what's stopping you getting a 4gb sd card and just using a USB reader :) If it doesn't work in the SD slot it should work via usb.

Can it detect and read/write to USB card readers? (or any USB device)
If so, what'd stop you putting any removable media into the card reader?

Looks like I'm wrong. It was promised that it would work but I can't find a single coment, post or blog with anyone saying they've managed to use a USB storage device with the Wii. It may come with a firmware update in the future but not now :(

Nintendo themselves did mentions a usb harddrive a while ago, although it was only in passing.
