Spurious Remote Releases

I'm looking for a remote switch for a Canon 30D. The Canon version (RS-80N3) is about 60 quid in shops here. I had a look on ebay and the HK traders all have spurious versions which would coast about 15 quid incl postage.
Has anyone got one of these? Are they any use? I suppose for that price you couldn't really go wrong...

    thx

    Made it ehh ?

Would you like to post a vague guide in your own words
as to how you made it ?:)

    oh, and is it wireless?

There's already a post in this forum with the schematic. I didn't design it myself or anything. It's a cable setup, not wireless I'm afraid, but great fun to whip out in Photography Class, and have people ask lots of questions about it.

is that for a 30D or 300/350/400D? The connection on the 30D is different - a three pin connection

Here's the schematic, it's for a 350d and compatible variants. Bear in mind, when they say 3/32", the stupid American means 2.5mm audio jack :-)
