Rte is a terrible broadcaster imo. They take their only bit of real talent, Ryan Turbidy and stick him on a saturday night. Besides that the only well done shows are the clinic, No frontiers and the view(which is stuck on at 11.30 for some reason).

Most of thier flagship shows are terribele

Fair city is awful. The acting and writing are like something that came out of a transition year school project.

    Winning streak
is an insult to the intelligence in this day and age.

The late late show is a shadow of it's former self, with that cardboard cut-out Pat Kenny not having an ounce of presenting talent, and more cringeworthy moments than watching a jenna jameson flick with you mother and father.

Qusetions and answers. Has to be the most prentencious show on television with some of the most pompous people I have ever come across.

Prime Time. Can be a top quality show at times but a lot of the time it's just standard dull stuff that doesnt really give any new perspectives.

Nationwide. Great lets film a farm for 30 minutes that will get people going:rolleyes:

Crimecall. This says it all for me. So devoid of original ideas they had to revive a show from years ago, that most people just took the piss out of at the time. I know people are gonna say "it's important", but put it on at 3 oclock in the day when people who actiually care at watching. Dont put it on a prime time slot.

Besides that we have the endless re-runs of show me the money and other shows put on at important times and as for that party planning show that was on a while ago I can truly say that was the worst television show I have ever had the misfortune of laying eye's on in my life. An insult to the intelligence. Irish people have moved on RTE.

just because you dont like programmes doesnt mean no one else does
people like Fair City, people enjoy Winning Streak, people enjoy Nationwide, people enjoy The Late Late Show, people enjoy Prime Time

i dont like Ryan Tubridy as a presenter (you do) but i wont call for him to be gotten rid of. why? because people enjoy him

you people are boring. RTÉ have to provide for everyone, not just you

Lads it was no secret. I knew it was filmed during the week. They filmed 8 different result combinations though and ALL THE VOTING WAS LIVE.
It does not make a mockery of the show. It makes no difference whatsoever. Many people didnt even notice and everything was done fairly.

If the show is not to your taste then fair play dont watch it....
but there was nothin out of order done by filming it early...

BTW : RTE hang on to shows even if they're not successful. How many people here (other than the guy who started the thread) actually watch You're a Star?

Winning Streak, Fair City etc. What a waste!

Why don't they replace all these shows with a test card and replace them with decent shows in the morning and a news service that starts before 1pm and goes on for more than 12 minutes.

Lol, yeah, though he claims he voted for one of the girls, yet has been going on about Shane since he joined Boards...

The panel is complete rubbish. It is embarassing to watch a few people in s discussion trying to be funny when 99% of what they say is not funny at all.

The panel is definetely a show that should get the axe, and the sooner the better.
Lol, yet you're a keen supporter/fan of You're A Star...you do know that means your opinion on The Panel (or any other programme, for that matter) is then worthless by default, don't you?

It doesn't matter how many people here watch it. A lot of people watch it, thus they can sell advertising, thus it gets picked up each year.
Fair city is awful. The acting and writing are like something that came out of a transition year school project.
No different to Brookside in terms of quality. It's fine, gets viewer, sells advertising. Also keeps a lot of actors in work, for better or worse.

Winning streak is an insult to the intelligence in this day and age.
I agree with this, the format is very stale. It reaks of a college project.

The late late show is a shadow of it's former self, with that cardboard cut-out Pat Kenny not having an ounce of presenting talent, and more cringeworthy moments than watching a jenna jameson flick with you mother and father.
The Late Late, during the Gay Byrne era was one of the best chat shows in the world. People will moan about him, but it was incredible. Watch some of the archived stuff, some of the interviews, some of the topics... It's incredible. Pat Kenny is rubbish in comparison and doesn't have televised interviews down as well as he does radio ones (where he is excellent), but he's improved a lot in his years on the show. It serves its purpose perfectly well, it's decent entertainment on a Friday night and better than the competition available.

Jenna Jameson with your parents? What age are you?

Qusetions and answers. Has to be the most prentencious show on television with some of the most pompous people I have ever come across.
No it's not. It's good stuff.

Prime Time. Can be a top quality show at times but a lot of the time it's just standard dull stuff that doesnt really give any new perspectives.
The quality of Prime Time is at the hands of current events. There have been some stellar Prime Times.

Nationwide. Great lets film a farm for 30 minutes that will get people going:rolleyes:
What part of the country are you from? Nationwide is there to appeal to people outside of cities, and particularly outside of Dublin. It's generally of no interest to me, but it gets a lot of viewers. It also keeps a lot of people in employment.

RTE is one of the best broadcasters in the world, in terms of content. Try watching television in continental Europe, the US, Canada or Australia. Don't even bother with Asia.

RTE's main problem is it proximity to tthe BBC (probably the best broadcastor in the world), and the Irish fascination with all things British. I think the term is cultural cringe. Sure some of their output is poor but every broadcastor in the world shows rubbish.

Personally I've never watched You're A Star but I'd be surprised if it wasn't RTE's biggest money spinner (Cheap to film, huge audiences, viewer voting etc). The orginal Popstars programme was done by New Zealand TV, and ITV "ripped it off" BTW

Oh and RTE's current affairs programming is exceptional. If you've any interest in current affairs/politics Questions & Answers and Primetime are essential viewing.

Simply because YOU or a lot of people who write on boards.ie don't like a show, it doesn't mean it isn't successful for RTÉ. Define successful...

I don't think the over half a million viewers who tune into Fair City on a regular basis would agree with you there! Winning Streak also gets great figures, as does You're a Star.

Personally I never watch Big Brother, X Factor, Pop Idol, Fair City, Emmerdale, Lost and many other shows.. I very much doubt I'm alone in these choices also. Does this mean they're not all hugely successful programmes for the broadcaster that's airing them?!

Rubbish, RTÉ are notororious for not renewing or cancelling shows that don't perform well. While it might be rubbish You're A Star got over 700,000 viewers just before Christmas, that's one of the highest audiences of the year and for a non sporting event it's fantastic. You don't really seem to understand television and how it works. RTÉ are a PSB and they need to make money from advertising (like most other Public Service Broadcasters), if a show gets high ratings they can charge more for advertising. If you disagree with this practise, write to the half a million that watch these shows, and let them know how frustrated you are.

Woo Hoo - someone who knows what they're talking about!

Bigger Audience = Higher Advertising Rates = More Moolah for RTE = Successful Show

    Simple really, isn't it?!!

I know one of the contestants, last weeks was the only week that will be recorded and that was because the Helix was booked.
