Is this possible? A by-product of plastering after the windows were put in
(I know everyone does it, can anyone tell me why??) ... some windows got scratched in the first cleaning so I am wondering now do I just live with it or
    can they be removed?

Get some Jewellers Rouge, it's a mild abrasive.

Thanks for the reply fathersymes, builderwoman I tried our local motor factors with no joy so rang a local glass company (they had frosted some of our internal doors) so they are going to give me some next week to try ... so try ringing round your local glass/window people. I will post how I got on with it next week!
