not sure i'd call - borderline, depends on a number of things, how i was playing, how much i was up etc, looks to me his made the flush

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 834 ✭✭✭peeko

Calling or folding depending on wether you are winning or not is the definition of a bad player

I was in doubt about whether he check raised me with 2 pair / set or one pair / over pair

tbh I was in doubt full stop, hence the post.

I disagree, i think its a sign of a sensible player. This particular bet is clearly a gamble, whilst i view poker as more of an art in general, more times than not you'll miss the flush. So my view is, if i'm having a good day or feel like a gamble, i might call this bet, more often than not i'd fold.

sorry but that's just sily, calling is either + or - ev, whether your up or down for the day has no relevence or effect on this.

this is the funniest thing ive heard here in a while, unfortunately you are completely wrong . This isnt a neutral ev call, it has a positive expectation. Most of the time any Jack Ace or spade wins it for us. Over 2 cards we win more than 1/2 the time. Folding here costs you money. Whether you are up or down for the session never has any bearing on the mechanics of a single hand, and using it as a guage of whether you should call or not is a clear indication you arent playing or thinking about the game the right way.

this is tight. HJ explains perfectly why it is tight. However if you are finding it trouble then you're quite right to fold it in general. I just to always get in trouble with AJ until I understood how to play it better. Part of learning the game is identifying hands \elements of your game which you have difficulty with and slowly improving them. I think some of the more experienced players sometimes forget this.

where? in another post? or are you referring to the post flop play?

LuckyLoyd, I think as I'm fairly new to this level I'm treating it with caution. As my roll increases and my confidence increases I will start playing a little stronger UTG.

Pre-flop is fine at a 6 handed table, although I'd probably make my standard opening 4-5 because $3.50 is a little too small for both your good hands and bad hands. Although the odd time it's fine I'm sure.

On the flop, a solid raise of about $6 is better, you want to take the pot down now because currently you have nothing, and be willing to call any push or push yourself over any re-raise, you'll normally be getting near enough to the right odds to chase, especially if your over cards are live too.

    Certainly as played I'd call

    Bigger raise, certainly call.
