Has anyone else noticed the tyanny of the 15 mins slot on modern radio? It almost does'nt matter what is being discussed how complex and detailed the topic 9 times out of 10 (at least) it gets squashed into a 15 min cannister and if there's much still to cover well tough, whichresulkts in many a conversion ending with the suddenness of a crash "well thats all, we have to leave it thanks to X and Y, news and sport headlines follow" cut to ad break.

Of course it is'nt even 15 mins really when you factor the ads, the competition whoring etc.

Matt Cooper on The Last Word just manged to allow about 6 mins for what might have developed into a good chat about house building standards and wasted energy but he or his producer (more likely) never gave it a chance.

Eamon Dunphy could be an annoying wind bag but he did at least give big and interesting topics time to be talked through.

    Mike.
