Ok just been shooting for a bit now and im sick of using my brothers digital camera(fujifilm s5500).

Anyway im in the market to buy a digital camera and after reading the auld sticky up there on advise for buying a digital camera i was thinking of getting the fujifilm s 5600. Seems like a good aul camera if its anything like the 5500 but theres a few things i wanna clea up first.

Firstly does it have a antishake feature as i found that any bit of shakey hands at all totally Fu(ks up the picture with the 5500. Thats the one thing i really hates about it (i dont have super steady hands).

Also are there any alternitives out there for the price range. I saw a samsung nv 7 on e bay and if im not mistaken it had a 7X zoom and 7.2 mp which seems pretty good to me(but what do i know im a total noob when it comes to cameras). Its major advantage for me is its far more compact, anyone have experiances with this or any other smaller recomendations.

Was also looking at the samsung nv 10 and whilest it dont have the zoom it has 10.01 megapixels and its around the same price and its sleek as fook. anyone got any experiances with this?

Fujis don't have image stabilisation. Yet. Dunno about alternatives - I was all set to buy a Fuji s6500fd a month ago, and now after way too much reading I'm going down the SLR road and getting a Nikon D50 and a couple of lenses, blowing my original budget right out of the water :o

don't buy a camera purely on megapixels or zoom range. get one with a good lens, good battery life (or one which takes AAs, which are cheap and plentiful), good handling and build quality.
dpreview is your best bet - very few will have used a wide enough range of cameras to be able to give you a proper appraisal of all options in your price range.

A good few years ago now (when 2-3 megapixels was standard) I went for a samsung instead of a finepix because I got more megapixels for my money. I think I made the wrong decision at the time, because the build quality wasn't great and the shutter lag was pretty awful too. Also, if you're used to the finepix range then the menus and controls will be more intuitive to you. As magic said, check out the proper reviews, because most people round here just don't have that kind of experience to be able to compare the models you're looking at.
