Did anyone get this over the weekend?
    Was it worth the wait?

I was going to pick it up myself but I have a few other games I want to finish first.

    On channel 4?
I read that as well and I thought they said it was one of the best looking games on the ps2. Or was it somewhere else that you read that it had poor graphics?

Unfortunately, as they said on Gamecentral. I think this is destined to do quite badly in sales.

Bad graphics? You mean they didn't like the style in which it was done - cel-shading?

My order dispatched on Friday (pretty shocking for play... they normally dispatch preorders a few days before release)
Can't wait to get stuck into this one:)

Bought on friday, and enjoying it so far. The graphics are great as far as I'm concerned, but I suppose some people might not like the look.

Just been through the tutorial stages and stuff, so far it looks like it has great potential but I just don't know how I'm going to find time for a game of its size... I seem to have spent more time desperately waiting for the next chance to save because I can't sit there engrossed in the game for hours as much as I'd like to.

As for 'the graphics are rubbish'... what? I've noticed the draw distance for scenery sucks but it doesn't effect gameplay and it doesn't change the fact that it's an outstanding game visually, none of my 360 games have graphics that leave as strong an impression as it.

Just started it today, after clearing Zelda Friday night.
Okami will be a future classic and it has all the hallmarks of another Ico or SOTC, beautiful graphics, nice gameplay, tons of atmosphere, just goes to show that you don't have to be next gen to be one of the most impressive games on the market, in fact I would have to say nothing, as yet, on any of the nextgen platforms comes close to any of those 3, Ico, SOTC, Okami, in terms of gaming perfection. Okami realy shows a developer at ease with the PS2, producing something truely exquisite, no surprise that capcom also brought us Killer7 and Viewtiful Joe, genius. If only Dead Rising were half this impressive.

gonna buy this and Ico later on today as the PS2 really is gathering dust at the moment

    Picked it up friday...

After only recently converting to Zelda...I'm worried that i'm gonna become addicted to these type of games. Okami is an absolute gem.

And its pretty hefty too...didnt get to my first dungeon until 5 hours or so into the game.

So far I have no complaints. THe celestial brush is great fun and the controls are for the most part solid (my only complaint is when you go first person the controls are reversed)

On the graphics...I like them alot...they deliver in the same the graphics in windwaker delivered...the characters come across alot more lively and emotional due to the graphic style then with most photo relastic games. It either takes alot of work to get facial expressions right [half life 2] or great direction in the cut scenes [final fantasy/twilight princess] to get the same effect as the characters in okami and windwaker. My only complaint about the graphics in comparison to other cel shaded games (specifically Windwaker) is that there might be too much on screen. It doesnt come across as bold and beautiful as windwaker did...but I believe this is the charm of okami and while it doesnt smack you like windwaker did quite early on, it does start to appeal after you've unlocked your 3rd tree.

Does anyone find the combat apart from Waka a bit easy. Its not easy as in keep hitting one button to win...just the game hasnt really thrown alot at me. Except when Waka shows up...he's a right b*tch to beat.

Played it for about 45 mins last night (up to restoring the village). Beautiful game - I'm looking forward to getting stuck into this one.

Given the relative lack of power of the PS2, its quite astounding the sort of games and artists visions that are on the machine, newer machines are getting by the numbers WWII FPS games and SciFi 3rd Person Shooters but the PS2 gets art, would never have guessed Sony would be the place to find true originality, I guess Nintendo have their work cut out to get that particular groove back.

You can invert the x and y axis in options. (click select button)

Ahh but the problem is when its in 3rd person the controls are fine, smooth camera control which I have no problem with...its only a pain when it goes first person.

so reversing the camera controls makes the 3rd person view awkward and the 1st person smooth.

    such a dileama :D

I picked it up yesterday afternoon after hearing some good things. Also, the visuals on the back of the box looked really good (I'm a sucker for that kind of style stuff). It was well past 3am when I managed to tear myself away from it. It's nothing short of stunning. The Celestial Brush is clever and fun (making trees bloom brings such a warm fuzzy feeling, especially the guardian saplings), the story is solid so far, and exploring is more fun than hard slog. Watching Orochi breaking free in the intro was the best "bad guy" exposition I've seen since Sarevok or Kain, artfully done.

If you have a PS2, you need Okami, it's that simple. It's like a non- Nintendo Zelda.

It's beautiful, plays beautifully too, will buy asap. Sarky hit the nail on the head, if you have a PS2 (if you don't why are you here) you need this game. Simple as.

got it on friday, just 40 euro

having finished Zelda TTP over christmas I have to say this game is the better of the two

im 24 hours into the game and still not even half way through
I was a bit wary of it, having not been a huge fan of viewtiful joe, or cel shaded games in general, but this is just a stone cold classic. Just last night I was running down the coast line in western Nippon, when i decided to stop, and just look at it still, and i swear to god it looked like a painting.

The game play is excellent, the music story and graphics all come together to create a wonderful atmosphere. Anyone whos played Zelda TTP will realise that Nintendo are running out of ideas for puzzles in Zelda games, but Okami's 100% original, you never get that been there done that feeling that most games have

    i cant praise it enough

oh, and the fights definitely get tougher after the moon cave (which you cant return to after you beat)

Was just about to start a thread about this great game when I found this one.

Around 10 hours in now and loving it. The graphics are more impressive than most, and remarkable for PS2. As a growing fan of Japanese culture, it is fascinating to start to learn bits and bobs about the histories and myths of the country. The gameplay is - lets be honest here - very similiar to Zelda (e.g. a hub field, a wolf, temples, and more) but also a couple of unique characteristics. The celestial brush is really very interesting, and creates some really quite unique puzzles. Im very impressed with the battle system as well (the pile driver manouvere is superb :p ).

Its the kind of game I actually feel good about buying. Games like GoW or Final Fantasy 12 are going to sell loads regardless, but this wont. Its unfortunate. Yet those who dont buy this game are really missing out, and those of us who do know we are supporting the games that really need it. And yes, I do blame Gamecentral for getting me into this mindset.

I agree... pity this won't get the sales that it so richly deserves.

Oh and anyone who says that the graphics are crap needs their eyes tested.

Not only will it not get the sales it deserves but it'll do an Ico & We love Katamari and be incredibly hard to find too, checked 4 stores for it on release day and it was only in in the last one. I had to pay an extra fiver in game as it was sold out in gamestation where it was cheaper (though they only got about 3 copies or so i'd say!)

What a game though, i'd agree with whoever said it was better than Zelda-TWP. Don't get me wrong i loved Zelda but this just does a better job of it imo. Especially in the script (which im surprised noone mentioned- i've found it pretty humourous) and graphics (which are breathtaking). That being said the game owes pretty much everything about it bar the graphics and the premise of plot to Zelda but you could hardly choose a better template for gameplay in an adventure game so its all good.

At first i found the gibberish that are the voices really irritating but thankfully i got used to it. I hated Issun too with his stupid repetitive obvious advice (reminded me of navi in OoT) but i could even say I like him now.

My only gripes with the game are that
Its too easy - battles are a cinch, i think i've been hit by an enemy roughly 10 times or less since i started it- i'm a good 25 hours in or so. But if i think that im a god its not so bothersome! :D
The camera can be annoying - the times i have been hit by an enemy has usually been down to the camera (the first boss was particularily awkward)

They're small problems though in what i find to be an utterly brilliant game that i'd recommend to everyone.

Only started playing this yesterday. I'm very impressed with the graphics.
As someone said earlier, it shows that you don't need a next gen machine to make stunning graphics. Now to use up 30+ hours of my life :D
