Having a repeated problems with skin tones appearing completely white, see pic for exaple.

Basically, people looking as if someone is shining a strong white light in their faces. The pic was taken on a bright, but not sunny day, outdoors, with no flash and it happened quiet to quiet a lot of them. They were candid shots rather than posed.

What am I doing wrong? Help!

    Thanks,

    Ip.

PS - if anyoen can direct me to a photoshop tutorial that puts healthier skintones back on skin without wltering the background, I;d be very greatful!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

There's no pic Ikky. What camera are you using?

I see, the skin tone is so white it blends with the Boards default background.

I didn't have time to go through it fully but this may be what your looking for.

Hmm. I don't think any amount of photoshopping is going to fix that up somehow. Looks like your camera is consistently overexposing your shots if thats happening a lot. Which camera are you using ? I'm presuming a digital P&S here, so none of these points may be valid. If your camera has settings for them though might be worthwhile checking.

Check see that you haven't inadvertently set your exposure compensation to a couple of stops extra (something like ev+1 or ev+2 in a menu somewhere).

Does your camera have a exposure lock that you might have hit while taking the pictures ? The background looks more in focus and better exposed than the foreground, you might have exposed and focused on the background and then taken the picture with the kid in the shot, but with the ev still locked on the background. This might have happened if you have a camera that locks and focuses when you have the shutter button pressed half way.

Finally, if your camera has a manual mode you might have inadvertently set it at some point, to some manual setting that over-exposes what you were taking at that particular point.
