Watch some of these as a good starting point http://tales.tsncentral.com/ . The commentary is pretty good from Vitensby and Bridger and they have pretty interesting points to make about the games. I download them and watch the avi or whatever it is for download, the stream works like **** and hte audio desyncs for me. Failing that go to game-replays or some place like that and download some replays of the leet players and watch those.

We are playing within the clan , 4 of us . twice we have played against each other 2 v 2 . Me and the other guy , allies , other two guys axis , and both times the axis just seemed too strong . Is there better tactics to be learned as allies or are the axis side that be stronger ?

Last I played CoH allies were winning about 60% of games in the stats, I prefared axis myself, but then again I havent played in ages. For RTS's the big thing is just keep trying, keep playing against better players (not wildly better, you learn nothing from being completely obliterated in 4 minutes), you will get the hang of it sooner or later. Also you learn alot more from a 1v1 than you do from team games, if you have a real good team mate its easy to think a new stratagy your doing is awesome when your team mate carries you (same in reverse if you lose).

Well , last night , after a healthy dose of harsh slagging , I got one of them to play me 1 v 1 , me as Axis , and beat him comprehensively . We are on for a rematch , us as Axis , so it will answer the question for me .

We found their tanks extremely hard to handle , six would roll in against our 3 or 4 + arty + anti-tank guns + mines and traps + whatever else we could throw at them , and maybe 3 Axis tanks would roll back out , leaving devastation behind them . They would limp back to a bunker and get repaired only to come on again. So all our time and effort was spent defending . The Axis tanks may be more expensive but they seem to roll out quicker that Allies aswell .

Nah , Yitty is on the opposite team . It's him and his buddy doing all the hammering . We did the swap over tonight , and I reckon if the game hadn't dropped we would have had them .

What is it with COH , connecting to games is a pain .

Their online servers are completely pants, even worse than AoE3's ones, one of the main reasons I havent played the game in ages.

The main problem with connecting to games is the fact that most games on the list dont actually exist anymore, and may have been there for hours or days. these so called " ghost games " are an f'in pain in the ass. Also everyone trying to play has to have their router and firewall set up right.

If its just me and one mate we play on hamachi to avoid the online crappiness. You cant really do more than 2 people on hamachi though, since it thinks it's on a lan it turns off all the lag compensation and 3 or more people lags like a bítch

grrrrr , open this port and that port , and maybe that other one aswell ....... This will put the majority of people off straight away . I can ( just about ) work out how to do this but , here's the thing ..... there seems to be three main ports talked about on the forums . When we are hosting a game it seems that alot of people drop because of ME ! . I can host or connect to some games but not all . The 3 ports in question are 6112 , 9100 and 30260 . I opened these ports and couldn't connect at all , not even to relic . So I closed them again and I still couldn't connect . I opened 30260 and could connect , but still couldn't connect to all players or all games .

    It is very frustrating !!!!!!!

Slighty off topic. Is it worth downloading the demo? Can everyone agree that it's a great game? I know this game has been out for ages but I have been under a rock, and im out now, looking for a good game. Im a big C&C fan, didnt like the Supreme Commander demo, had high hopes for that one. Anyone know how much (€) it's going for right now?

Haven't talked to anyone who didn't enjoy it to be honest. Pretty damn cheap from play. http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/3275971/Company_of_Heroes/Product.html £15 inc shipping

ya saw that, €24 is not bad.I'll have a look in town first. Not sure about ordering from play, since tha value is over €21, which I think is the cut off for ordering stuff from outside the EU. Please correct me if im wrong. Ya looks like a great game.

Allies is the much easier side to play.
Normal allied strategy. Is a mass of early riflemen to overwhelm the axis player and gain an edge in map control. Fast tech to motor pool then clear the map with a fast Quad and M8 then support them with infantry with bars, stickies and AT Guns. Very hard to beat. Watch out for airborne doctrine its the most powerful doctrine in game.

Axis is more about combined arms. Hold the ground with Volks and MG's Common strategy is to go blitz and use stealthed stormtroopers to break up defensive points with the asistance of mass stugs and puma'sand hopefully survive long enough to get tigers. But axis tier 3 was badly nerfed last patched.

I would now recommend going defense with a tier 2-4 strategy bunkering down early ride out the storm of fast motor pool units then grind them down with artillery (walking stuka, Flak 88) and using defensive doctrine abilitys to assist you in doing this.
