Not really, they're completely different styles of programs. A comparision with Lightroom would mayhap be better.

Care to give a one liner summation of what each does? I use photoshop (not CS) badly enough, never used the other two, Lightroom or Aperture?

...Like Aperture, Lightroom isn't designed to be a substitute Adobe Photoshop. Both Lightroom and Aperture are targeted at professional photographers, providing a complete workflow solution for managing, editing, and outputting digital images. The emphasis is on RAW format photos, but not to the exclusion of JPEGs. While there's some overlap with Photoshop's toolset, neither Lightroom nor Aperture offer layers, selection tools, or a text tool...

tbh I was wondering myself and hadn't got around to asking, or looking it up either, so thanks for posting the ques. I seem to remember a few years back there was so super high end image editing app that was really fast for working with big images in its own file format. Seems to have vanished and I can't remember the name of it.
