Just in light of what's happened in Cork with Motorola and Phizer etc, do any of you know whats the story with Dell in Limerick.

I had heard a few months ago(last year sometime) that they were thinking of moving to Poland or somewhere.
Anyone with some inside info if they are still thinking of packing up and moving?

It was sometime last year towards the end when I heard Dell were setting up a new place in Poland and they asked the company I worked for if they could also set up there (They currently work with them in Limerick) but they said that site in Poland was to be in conjunction with the one in Ireland, working together at the same time.

Do you think this site will eventually take over from the site in Limerick or is it a case where dell actually need another factory to cope with demand?

No, they'll be gone eventually - sales and share price are down so they'll need to start maximising profits - if you can't do that by floggin more pc's then look to make savings internally....move to polskiland..

The plant in Poland will be a threat.

Dell is a major employer in the region.

Other countries have well educated people with lower costs of living.

It will all come down to economics.

I would prefer Dell getting into MP3 players, Set top boxes etc. They have not developed into a consumer eletronics company.
