At a guess, I'd say it's too late now. Maybe I'm wrong?

Its a bit late now i would have thought but maybe xtravision or argos might be your best bet. As far as i know though you will be forced into buying a bundle anywhereyou purchase as that is the way sony want them to be sold. I could well be wrong about that though.

If price is a major problem maybe you should wait, their is already talk of a 25% price drop by the end of the year.

argos arnt taking pre-orders, so id jus camp out there as its first come first served.

well right now stores will probably take pre-books for another week and then end it, since Sony have officially given out their allocations to the companies.

in xtra-vision (i don't know what other stores are doing but i imagine it's similar) for €700 or so (don't recall the exact figures, i was drunk when told) you'll get the ps3, extra controller & 2 games. i was very pissed off at first and asked if it's forced, but was told you can buy the console on its own. i will try and get confirmation tomorrow though... unless someone else already knows.

    xtra-vision celbridge: target pre books=14
    total pre books so far=0

so I wouldn't say too late just yet!

And GAME haven't even started taking them yet so you might have some luck there, although they're prioritising people with their name down for interest.
I was the first name of about 50.There could be more now though.

    We're takin them at Smyths

€50 depos that you'll get back. Offers with games will be there on the release day.

We heard there'll be loads of consoles available on release for people with prebookings

as i said before, smyths, gamestop, xtra-vision & anyone else out there who took pre-orders used that as a bargaining chip with Sony, and Sony allocated enough consoles for each company to cover those pre-orders, and then some. not sure how game got on with allocations...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

GAME on Dawson street said their allocation is between 150-200 consoles.
    So probably 151.:D

well judging by the llast two big console launches we have had well more than pre-ordered numbers in game dawson st as the midnight launch requires more stock. I assume they will do another midnight launch considering the wii one went by without a hitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

So you reckon they will do a midnight launch again then yeah?
    Right...now to organise a lift.:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

well its too early to say but itd be crazy to say it wont happen. it is pretty much certain it will happen. they are great fun and good publicity for the company so id say its definite

Is it Sony funded?I couldn't imagine GAME forking out the money to do it.
I'd say your just looking forward to the double time pay!;)

You're talkin allocation per company, allocation per store is different

each store get its stock of a new console depending on how many preorders are taken

we already have about 110 preorders

you should work in a store. you get to pick them up and hug them as they arrive in the delivery :D
(note: you may not want to pick up a ps3, it could lead to serious back injury)

yeah... my point was per company...

each company would have gone to sony saying "we have x consoles pre-ordered, give me consoles!", then after that round the companies would sort out allocations to individual stores.

Was just in my local XV, they will be able to fill all pre-orders and they have bundles but won't be forcing them, only catch being you have to buy the console and at least one game.

So that's two places that have guaranteed me a console on launch day.
Remember, anyone who didn't get a pre-book down in time and needs one just give me a PM.

Actually, under new European Competition law Sony can only allocate limited availabilty stock (such as PS3) on a proven market share basis.. so preorders make no odds. It prevents manufacturers and resellers colluding to distort the market

So what you're sayin is they're not forcing bundles, but they are really.

No, they're forcing a game.Which is apparently what Sony is making them do.
I meant bundles within 2-4 games, extra controller, a PSP etc.
I mean, are you just going to buy a PS3 with no game?

    but it looks so purdy

on a related note, xtravision in Dungarvan are taking preorders

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

Ah no, I forgot to ask if my local had stopped taking pre-orders, I do however remember her saying that anyone who booked before Xtra Vision got their allocation will be guaranteed a console on the day, so I would make a calculated guess that if you booked with them now you wouldn't have as much of a chance?

every xtra-vision store now knows what they'll be getting (based on how many pre-books they have, and how they perform in games generally). my store got a lot more then expected, so we'll probably be able to continue taking pre-orders for another 2 weeks

almost sure that pre-orders are a representation of the market share that will come out at launch. Sony take a pre-order as a sale (as do the stores), and can use that figure as a gauge to tell who's doing what with regard to sales...

    Why not?

You may have got games from relatives in the US for christmas etc

They still dont let you buy it on its own, so, there still some sort of bundle forced there. Not as bad as others, but yeah......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭AceCard Jones

I don't think they care if you got any imported games, to me 1 game isn't a bundle, or something to give out about.Apparently you have a choice of game and it ends up cheaper than if you were to buy the console and then come back to get a game later or in another store. To me that sounds alright anyway, besides it wouldn't surprise me if other stores tried something similar to this.

I did hear a rumour that the machine comes with a 1st party title at €629.99.. not gospel tho.. just a rumour!

Really?I haven't heard anything about that myself Absolam.
I thought we would get a Blu-Ray movie or something at most.

I did. The shop I bought mine in didn't have any games in stock I wanted.

And if they did you would have bought it, that's the point I was making,I wasn't trying to justify having to buy one game with the console, I was just wondering why give out about it if you want at least one game anyway.
And where did you get your PS3 from?

I dont mind the bundles as long as they dont force u 2 buy a crappy 3rd party controller! especially with them being wireless u can expect hours upon hours of connection fun  forcing u to pay for something u dont want just to get your hands on something u do is dispicable consumer exploitation! POWER 2 THE PEPS!!!

GAME at least don't have any of their own brand control pads as of yet, they have all their own brand cables etc though. Also the manager in GAME told me that you can just buy the console and walk out if you like.
