Seen something years ago that was frightening.

I saw something many years ago that I haven’t talked about since. I was involved in a small Christian religious group in school. I decided to go to the meetings of a new movement that also held meetings at the school, but in the evenings. It was while travelling from a meeting of this group in the school one evening that this happened. I was sitting opposite a young woman who was a regular attendee of the meetings. I didn’t know her, but I recognised her as being part of the new movement. She seemed to be well known within it. Which at the time was becoming very popular and gaining many new members.

I was relaxed and comfortable on the bus, sitting opposite this woman and her friend, I was sitting beside someone else in a group of four. In a pause in the conversation, I glanced out the window, and then back towards this woman. Nodding agreeably passing the time of day. Then I looked out of the window again and glanced back at where this woman was sitting, and for a second I saw a horrible, demonic type creature. I can only describe it as repulsive and reptilian. I saw this as clearly as I’d seen the woman a second previously. What's more this creature was sitting taking up the same space as this woman and was sitting in the same way. Then the creature vanished and this woman turned and looked at me, I pretended everything was fine and slightly smiled back, despite feeling sick in my stomach and completely numb.

I realised whatever this entity was sitting opposite me it wasn’t human. Whether this woman was possessed by this creature, or was this thing in human form, I don’t know. I also assumed it had not deliberately revealed itself to me, but that I had momentarily seen through it’s disguise or else something greater than it had deliberately shown me it's true nature. I also assumed this creature didn't realise this had happened, and didn't know I knew the truth.

Why did this happen? I believe a power greater than me wanted to show me something so I would tell others. I never went back to those evening meetings and, though I knew I should have, I didn't tell anyone else what I'd seen. I didn't even tell my friends in the small Christian group in school, some of whom were still involved in the new movement.

Strange things began to happen in that movement within weeks; leaders started dictating what was to go on at meetings, people started taking jobs at the behest of leaders, then were encouraged to donate a part of their wages to the movement and the numbers grew beyond the capacity of the school so meetings were held elsewhere. From what I heard it seemed out of control and like a cult. I was glad I'd been given a warning and got out early; I still felt disappointed in myself that I hadn't warned others.

There are a few ways people look at an experience like yours. (im not getting into any rational explanations like hallucination for this discussion)
Firstly you may think this woman was demonic and you somehow saw it. Or you may think she was possesed or demonic and someone or something 'made' you see it as a warning. They are very literal ways to define what happened, that assume this girl is something other than human.

I tend to have a different view, Id take something like this as a warning, yes, but not one that means this girl was a demon in the bibilcal sense. You were interested in the new group, and it turned out that it was not for you, and was possibly very destructive and damaging. So maybe a spirit/guardian/guide/whatever, did warn you in this clumsy way, because there was no other way in which you would have noticed? The demonic image was a metaphor, if you like, to show you should avoid the girl and the group?

Am with KittyKat on this one, first thing that came to mind was a metaphor. So its a good thing that you took the warning as it seems to have worked for you.

A good lesson learned .... trust the signs ;)

Don't feel bad about not warning people, I'm sure what you were thinking at the time, is how people would have reacted if you had of told them, and what they would have thought of you. I'm not sure but I'd imagine that many people with strong christian beliefs would have thought less of you for claiming to have seen such a thing, possibly to the point of you being completely ostricised from the groups. If anything, trying to warn people about what you had seen could very easily have left you in a worse position to help anyone. And a group developing into a cult could very easily have made an example of you as the kind of opposition they were likely to face and used you to draw their members closer.

Just be thankfull you got this warning when you did and were able to get out in time.

Did this movement have a name? By that I mean is it still active?

Thanks for your replies, they were all very supportive and gave me some alternative points of view. I know it's hard to believe anyone would have seen such a thing, and I probably would find it hard to believe anyone else if they wrote this post. I didn't want to see what I saw, and I hope I don't ever again (and I never have before or after thank goodness.) I'm glad most of you at least have an open mind and are prepared to consider this at face value.

To answer Dubh Geannain the group had a name but I wouldn't want to identify anyone involved; even though this happened more than 20 years ago. That's why I didn't give any specific details in my original post.

The truest comment for me came from 6th: "A good lesson learned .... trust the signs" That's good advice. :)

Could you describe the creature in a bit more detail? Would be interesting to try look it up.

This is not unusual. Many people have reported seeing 'reptilian' creatures or ordinary human beings appear as grotesque reptiles momentarily.

There are quite a few people (aka conspiracy theorists) who believe that these creatures are aliens who tampered with human DNA and can appear as humans.
