Spot of trouble re tax

    Hey all,
I'm looking for some advice here. Basically, I took a job in Jan 06 in a foreign embassy in dublin. Twas related to what I did in college and I saw it as a chance to get some much needed experience related to what I did in college. Pay was crap but I needed the experience.

I started but it was soon clear that they had no idea nor any intention of playing ball in terms of tax. They didn't take any tox documentation off me, didn't want to know about my pps no. etc. Indeed, the girl in charge of payroll wouldn't have any idea what to do with the documentation even if they were willing to take it. And despite what they claimed, they've never paid any PRSI contributions on my behalf.

So, I've basically paid no tax since last January. I only intended on staying for a few months but you know the way things happen.

A guy I worked with in the same position contacted revenue last year. However, as we are employees, he was told that it was the employer who had to register tax etc.

Recently, we have contacted here and have been asked for the names and salaries of all Irish staff. I have no savings and the thought of paying a years back tax is scaring the life out of me. Furthermore, my efforts to find a new job are hampered by the fact that I have no tax certificates or documentation from this job.

Any advice/input would be most appreciated.

    Thanks all.

Don't worry about it too much. You've made genuine attempts to get them to sort out your tax etc, it's not your problem. If you were required to repay tax you don't repay it as a lump sum, it's taken out of your monthly tax for the next year(s), depending on how much is owed.

Would you not make an anonymous phone call to the Revenue?
