    Hi there,

Am thinking of going on a sun holiday the last week in March and so the Canaries would seem to be the best place to get the sun at that time of year. Would really appreciate it if someone could give me their opinions on Lanzarote or Fuerteventura, nice resorts etc? Are they all really touristy built up areas? If anyone has any recommendations on where I could get the sun and some nice beaches at that time of the year that'd be great!

    Thanks a mill,
    TTT

I was in Lanzarote last October for 2 weeks, staying in Peurto Del Carmen. Unless you're actually Spanish, everone will come upto you trying to sell you something, the place is very touristy, nearly all the resaurants are the same, the nicest we went to is El Tomate. Avoid all the "Lanis" restaurants at all costs, all the other local owned restaurants have pretty much the same menus, if you're on a budget though it's grand as a meal costs aroung €8. We hired a car to get around the Island which is the best way to see it, if you go there definately check out the volcano place, and there's some artists museum as well which is nice, the beach is nice too but slightly dodgy sand in some parts of the island, ie more muck than sand

Thanks SQDD. Haven't even booked Lanzarote yet and doesn't sound like you enjoyed it that much so might think again? Or am I wrong?

Oh sorry about drawing out all the negatives... On the plus side while the temperature was floating around 3 degrees back in Ireland while I got a nice sunburn with temperatures of about 28degrees in lanzarote. If you're looking for a cheap hol for like reading a book and chillaxing on the beach it's ideal

I have been to them all, although i have not actually stayed on Fuerteventura as it was only a day trip.
Lanzarote is great.. check out with budget travel in Puerto Del carmen the Hyde Park Lane Apartments. Actually they are semi detached Villas mostly. Absolutly one of the best places i have stayed in. Its a little more expensive than some of there other offerings.. probably about the €400 + mark per person for a week.
Anyway they are very relaxing... not near any loud nightclubs but only 5 mins walk to the Playa Los Piccilos (spelling?) beach and commercial centre. Very nice beach. Then maybe 15 mins walk to the main strip area of Puerto del carmen. Its also very near Rancho Texas which is worth a visit!!

I advise renting a car when you are there for a couple of days. I think we used plus cars or something.. it was in the commercial centre (at the back). We got a Beetle convertable for 2 days fully insured for €99.

There is a great Japanese place along the strip. As a previous poster mentioned... do not go to Lanis.. overpriced muck.... even the Mexican one was crap!!
