These didnt do a huge amount for me though I think the first one is growing on me. I like the striations of the beach in the first one and the isolation of the figure. The low colour content works well without going for the "alone in black and white" thing.

Its a pity about the masts on the right of the second one, I keep being drawn to them rather then the silhouttes. I dont see how you can really get rid of them and not end up with a weird shapped shot or missing the mountains and sky.

Nice shots, but theres something I cant my finger on that doesnt work for me. I avoid these kinds of shots myself because I can never make them work so fair dues for tackling it.

    DeV.

I think the first one has a lot of potential, but if you were to crop the bottom off a bit more, to have the figure more prominent in the bottom third, and slightly increase the contrast through levels or burning to bring out some of the architecture in the fog.

The second one is a wee bit too busy, I can see what devore means by the arials being more distracting.

Possibly lens blur on the background could make it a bit more prominent.

    Try cropping them both.

Thanks for the replies. These were frustrating photographs - I could see that there was the potential to take a good shot on the day, but neither worked out as I'd hoped.

DeVore - the RTE mast and UCD water tower in #2 do distract from the two silhouettes - ironically, though, I still like them as they tie the photo to a particular location for me. (BTW on the left hand side you can just make out the Dundrum Luas bridge - it's more obvious in the colour version.)

CoolBoardR - that crop on #1 works very well - much better than the original.

Fajitas! - I think you're right re #1 and I'll give it a go. Incidentally, #1 is pretty much as it came out of the camera - although it looks like the pic. was selectively desaturated, that's exactly how it was on the day.

I reckon the second is grand except maybe crop out the land at the bottom of the pic?

I love the 1st one I think the cranes in the background look great! This may be my bad taste or something but I really like the 1st one.

    Well done with it :D
