Luas fares

I have a point to make about the Luas fares. Why oh why is there not the facility to get your ticket on the tram itself? If you have to run to catch the Luas, if you have an appointment to make, and you don't have time to buy a ticket, there are 2 options, 1, Be late by 10 mins, or 2, break the law. I understand you could leave your house 5 minutes earlier, but situations do arise where thats not possible.
I know there is the smart card facility, but if you are not a regular user, this is pointless.
In Helsinki, the trams can be paid for by a monthly card, or a top up card or you can pay the driver directly.
Also, there you are rewarded for buying the monthly card, which can be used on metro, trams and buses!!! It's about 40 euro for unlimited usage for citizens, a bit more for visitors.

Probably due to the amound of fare-doging that goes on. if you could buy your tickets on the tram, you sould just cahnce your arm and pretend you didn't have a chance to buy your ticket at the booth or machine.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I believe there should be more booths available to purchase your tickets so ppl may not be tempted to jump on without paying if a tram is about to leave and haven't the patience to wait for the next one.

Save the company money in the long term.

Agree with the above point tho.

Giving space over on the trams to ticket machines means less space for passengers.

But to be honest, you post sounds like "whinge".

It's not a probelm as far as I can see. If you haven't accomodated for time to buy the ticket, it's really frustrating, but just leave earlier next time, or plan on being a few minutes late!:)

They should 'downgrade' the overly complex and stupid software in the ticket machines.

Things like weekly tickets etc should be on another page, but everything should be on the first page. They should also leave the coin/note acceptor on at all times - the number of times you see people trying to put in money before selecting a ticket is insane, and from coke vending machines it's quite a natural thing to do.

Fonts should be easier to read and in a standard Arial format, not that foolish blobby font they and dublin bus insist on using.

Not at all!! It costs 10 euro, and as far as I know, comes already topped up a certain amount. It also has a facility where you can go into a negative balance, handy if you've no cash, or haven't time to top up.

It gives you the equivalent of return-fare prices and takes a second to tag-on before hopping on the train.

This is the perfect solution if you ask me - now all they have to do is integrate it with the bus system!

there is a third option that you left out, you could leave your house 10 minutes earlier and have time to get the ticket before you get the Luas.

If your using the green line the Luas is quicker than any bus into town so you are still getting into town quicker than if you were using the bus. but i guess like everyone your time is just to precious to waste.

also the Luas runs every 5 minutes in peak time so you will only be 5 minutes late.

OK....i'll buy a smart card so. I did mention the 3rd option of leaving 10 minutes earlier btw... anyway i'm finished my "WHINGE" as someone put it.

And how is being able to pay a conductor going to leave less room for passengers?
