When you add the rip the song with iTunes it goes into the iTunes folder. If you have it somewhere else jsut put it into it (really just to keep it together) iTunes doesnt make a copy of each file, you just have to tell it where the file is.
Hope that helps, not sure if i understand what you were saying.

i mean like, when i import music from say a ripped cd which is already on my computer, it doesnt make a copy of each song for itunes is what u mean is it? so its staying in the folder it was originally in nd just listed in itunes?

    thanks alot

i think if you consolidate your itunes, then it will move the all tracks into that folder and create ONE track.
but you are correct in saying that it will make duplicates, ie it will have two versions (one from itunes folder, one from original folder) if you so like both on your itunes list

Yea, doesn't copy, but they do keep those files which have your whole library in it if you want to restore it, they're in the iTunes folder. You can delete them if you want.
