Hard to believe that MAME is now 10 years old. More info at http://www.mamedev.org

I remember finding MAME about 6 months after it came out... I religiously 'collected' for about 5 years (until most of the good games came out), and I still dip my toe from time to time for nostalgic reasons....

In emulation, 10 years ago was an exciting time... Visiting Davesclassics, Retrogames, Emuviews on a daily basis to see what new goodies were out.... Playing RAINE, Genesyst, ZSNES for the first time.... ah memories.

So lets talk about MAME! What are your earliest MAME memories?

Goes without saying - no ROM requests!!

It sure is hard to believe it's been ten years! Like most people I found Mame when I went looking for the arcade games I had played in my youth. Asterix, Aliens, Knights of the Round, final fight etc. Then I found Callus that was emulating Cps1 games and I was hooked. We've a lot to thank Mame for, we wouldn't be able to play Mortal Kombat and an infinite number of majhong clones without it;)
The emulation scene has entered a lull these last few years but there still has been some major break throughs. Who thought we would ever see Sega Model 1 3d being emulated for instance? The next major hurdles are CPS3, Model 2/3 and there's alway tweaking and speed fixing to do.

Used to love Emuviews. Looked at it religiously at least once a day. Pity it is gone now. It was far better than zophar for news which has a lot of rubbish like new modified zelda roms.

The entire collection is 27GB (8000 odd roms) and to get it may take you 4 months or so @2kb

When running a new mame it may take up to 20 minutes for it to search for games.

Playing random games with that rom list will get your some Mahjong game 9 times out of 10.

Everytime theres a rom update and new roms added at least 50 old ones wont work anymore.

    Weird.
