Sorry if i am repeating old threads but here goes:

I want to get all my 12gb of music onto an mp3 big enough to take it all and to leave room to add more on.

I am not interested in video or any other extras so i just want decent battery life too. I have had a Sony 1GB mp3 player for the past couple of years and i am very happy with it just that storage is too small and i hate putting stuff on and then off again to make room all the time.

I was hoping to the the Sony 20gb players but the Sony shops and other shops have stopped selling them. Sony's largest one now apppears to be the 8gb version only!!!!

These days thats like saying that you don't want a phone with a camera or any other extras. Video has pretty much become standard in mid to high range mp3 players. You may not need it, but if you want to buy a decent mp3 player chances are you gonna get it anyway.

As for what you should buy, well iPods and Zen Vision M's are probably the most popular players at the moment and if you search you should find at least a dozen threads comparing the two. If battery life is priority then have a look at the iAudio X5L, the X5 also has arguably the best sound of any player although in my opinion they are seriously overpriced for a player that's been on the market so long. I'm afraid you won't find many people singing Sony's praises here. What I've read has been mostly bad!

€250 inc. postage for a new 60GB X5 on an eBay shop.

    I beg to differ.

I've obviously been looking in the wrong places! OP if you can get an X5 at a good price you won't be disappointed!

Ive got a Zen Vision:M 30gb. I really like it, sound quality is great, ease of use, features: fm radio, radio recorder, video, pictures.
You can get them around the €240-280 mark if you shop around.
    I highly recommend it

IMO it's stupid to buy a PMP in a shop in Ireland. You can save up to €100 if you buy online. eBay shops in particular are very cheap as well as reliable. You also rarely have to pay customs as they will value it at a lower price than it was sold for.

I love my Zen Vision: M too and while overall it beats the X5 if you forget about the video and just compare as an audio player then the X5 wins IMO. It has the best sound (i directly compared it to a Zen touch, Vision M, and H320) UMS firmware (no stupid software to install) and the option of Rockbox!

am an X5 fan myself, picked it up in NY for $280 8 months ago!

I like the M, but where I find the X5 wins out hands down is on size, it is a good bit sleeker than the M. Also the reason why I didn't go for the X5L, because the longer battery life makes that one quite chunky as well.

Sound quality is top notch with X5, video is so so, I didn't really require the video at all but the odd time I've used it its been fine, I just consider it as an extra function it has. Perfect little jukebox!

Also, amazingly, I've commuted daily with it for the last number of months and it is unbelievably scratch resistant - it still looks as good as new! :)
