and did you succeed in becoming it?

Not sure if this topic has been done, or done to death, but I wanted to be a footballer when I was young, like a lot of children :p but alas my fitness is dire, and i'm far too lazy :D

When my teacher Mr. Buckworth asked me this, I responded that I wanted to be a mother****in hustla, and he better aks somebody.*

An airline pilot, from as far back as I remember. Theyd an open day at the airport years ago and I got into it then.

Then I hit 14 and got deaaaddd laazzyyyyyy. Dont ever recall call centres, takeaways, warehousing or anything else ive done being on the wish list of me or my mates.

*: I realise only a tiny porportion of you will recognise the greatest album skit ever, but hey, I couldnt resist :D

I wanted to be the first guy to reach 1,000,000 posts on boards.ie . Of course it did lead to endless days of my child self asking himself "what is boards.ie and why should I care?" but that was only of academic concern at the time.

I can't really remember tbh, I think I wanted to be a vet. I'm not a vet now though, its a career I'd love to get into except I didn't have the points in the leaving (nor the subjects) and I'm already 2 years through a business course.

At the moment I haven't a clue what I want to do, and time is running out I guess, either get into Event Management, get into a good position in the music industry, or teach secondary school business/economics for the leaving...so I guess we'll have to wait and see! Certainly won't be staying long enough in my current work to make a career out of it.

I never really cared about careers and stuff when I was younger, but iirc being a vet was the one thing I had my mind set on (up until a certain point)...never happened...oh well!

Unfortunately managing an IT training centre wasn't my childhood dream.

    I wanted to be Monkey.

I'm sure there's still time to realise both dreams...

    A fire engine.

Sorry, but it had to be done.

    Haha :D

On the other hand, I don't mind that I haven't achieved my childhood dream. I do have a new dream of winning a major bowling tournament or a major poker tournament, but the lack of bowling alleys in Galway and money means they both have to remain a dream, for the moment.

Me too come to think of it. Id have loved to be a lawyer and still would, but 5odd years in college is more of a sentence than a study (besides there wasnt a snowballs chance in hell I would squander my youth studying enough to get the required LC points). Never took to college like some people, left after a year and a half.

I didn't really want a specific job, more like I wanted to be certain people... Keith Wood, Saeed Anwar, and my history teacher. So yes I wanted to be one of the world's greatest batsmen who captained Irish rugby on Saturdays and taught history during the week... not very realistic.
I wonder how few people actually end up doing what they've always wanted?

I wanted to be a doctor or a teacher. My mum stole the teaching idea and became a teacher about 8 years ago. I was too lazy to study for medicine, and decided I didn't want to do it when I was about 16. Now I'm two years into a biology degree, and want to do medicine again.

I wanted to be either a kindergarden teacher or a lecturer...not that yet, but maybe someday...would not have minded being an astronomer either and being a writer and artist but you can do those as hobbies and I do.

I wanted to be a pilot. Sure didnt I once say "where can ya do pilotry in college". Ah innocence! Im still in 6th year so if I decide I want to be one again, I can always do it. I just wouldnt have the guts to take a plane at that speed, filled with people down a runway. And it'd be worse for landing.

So Iv changed onto primary teaching, which Im adament I will get one day. Just have to take the long way around it all.

Pighead wanted to be the first person to call Pat Kenny an insufferable arsehole on live television.

My poor heart sunk when that fcuker Stokes stormed onto the stage and stole my thunder.

Damn him and damn the RTE ticketing office for never answering my weekly request for Late Late Show tickets.

I wanted to be a sheriff (even carried a badge in my wallet until I lost it last year) because I'd have got to shoot bad guys. But seeing as there isn't much place for a sheriff in todays society I became an electrician instead and I hate it.

Actually how is the sheriff appointed?

I remember when I was a kid the sheriff showed up at our door one day to try and evict us. It's a a pretty despicable profession I guess... not like you'd imagine from watching US cinema.

i wanted to be a chef, i started to cook and learn the basics at around 8 and here i am aged 26... a chef

A binman (I liked the idea of crushing stuff with the big thing at the back of the truck) and an archaeologist (maybe watched Indiana Jones too much, but it was something I genuinely read up on as a kid). I'm not close to either profession now, although I guess the binman job is always an everpresent possibility.

The idea of uncovering hidden history still intrigues me though.
