XP not genuine

Don't know if this has been raised before but I couldn't find it. I tried to update to Media player 11 but when asked to validate, got the message that my copy of XP is not genuine. This despite the fact this is a Dell installed OS and also I have updated to Media player 10 previously without a problem. Any suggestions?

Try manually doing the validation process perhaps. here.

OK. Managed to do it that way, thanks Ruu. I think I'll be writing to Mr Gates and Mr Dell about this, complete waste of my time. Technology my a*se!
