For a TV picture to be HD it has to be one of three resolutions: 720p, 1080i or 1080p. There are other resolutions, but they're essentially standard definition (SD) sizes. The resolution's number is the number of horizontal lines that make up the image, analogous to its height in pixels. The letter, p or i, stands for 'progressive' or 'interlaced'.

A full HD will do all the above resolutions.... Only the higher end ones will do 1080p...

Nope.... I have that TV.. Tis sweet. Some say u'll only notice the difference between 720p n 1080p on the larger screens, 50" to 60"..

I think its just a new buzz thing... first it was having a HD tv, now u have to have a full HD tv... I wonder what'll be next

Any specs or model numbers? Sounds too good to be true. The Size and price dont really match.

Called in today and it is too good to be true, a pricing mistake. I think previous poster was right, they got their projection and lcd mixed up by the looks of things.

    Any model numbers?

I'm up in Dublin Wednesday, and will swing by and get one if it's definitely not rear projection.

Edit: Just checked www.sony.ie there, and the only 50" model they have is a rear projection unit KDF-50E2010.

Am still deciding between the sharp and samsung full hd 40" (F series). Was up in DID at the weekend too, asked about ordering in the F series for me, but was quoted €2800, even though komplett are now selling it for €1799

Maybe that 1 is projection Tony but price verses size is not wrong in other shops...

I was in Electrocity in Carlow town on Sunday last & noticed a Samsung 40" LCD-TV HD ReadyLE40R74BD for €1499.
Apart from the stunning HD demo on it, Samsung screens stand out in the crowd for me, they just always look sharper than the rest & at the end of the day, all techno stuff aside, it's the eye's opinion that counts.
Having said that u need to know what your getting for your money.
If you read the spec it's 5000:1 contrast ratio, good, & native resolution is a decent 1366 x 768 which will more than display 1080i from Sky HD(which i'm getting) or the xbox 360(which i have).
It also has Samsungs DNiE (Digital Natural Image Engine) which gives a great boost to colour saturation & accuracy making pictures more vivid.
I asked the assistant had he any 40" Samsungs in full 1080p HD as i also want to be able to use playstation 3 when it's released in march, as it requires 1080p TV to get the most out of it's graphics.
I also want to get a Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-Ray DVD Player which transmits 1080p throught HDMI & so future-proof myself(as best 1 can) for all the latest in the coming year or 2. He said whoooo let me see your talking big bucks, as i'd expected & he said he'd get me a price, but it'd be over €2500 for the TV & over €1000 for the player. I don't want the player just yet & Komplett.ie do it for €1,098.99 at the moment, nice player.
He hadn't even model no's or specs for me for the 1080p Samsung model(s).
So i looked up Samsungs site & spotted the Samsung 40" LCD-TV LE40F71B that you just metion lynchie & i have to say for €1799 it's a good deal. It's €300 more than i wanted to pay for a good mid range 40" HD Ready LCD TV & not the €1000+ extra i expected to pay for a 40" Full HD LCD TV.

It has a 6000:1 contrast ratio & 1920x1080 native resolution (Full HD)
2 x HDMI connections, most lesser TV's have only 1.
Click on "additional Information" tab on the Komplett.ie link above to get full specs. For a relatively small increase of €300, which i'm saving, i'm going for the Samsung 40" LCD-TV LE40F71B Full HD.
It should last me at least the next 2 years, but with technology u never know. For example:
HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports 8-channel, 192kHz, uncompressed digital audio and all currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby Digital and DTS), HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new lossless digital audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.

So basically even the super high quality connectivety of HDMI(High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is ever evolving, from 1.2 to the new 1.3.
Expect to see alot of hifi & home cinema equipment early '07 with HDMI.

Anyway, this TV or type TV is for people who will want to use some of the high end technologies mentioned above in the near future. If the most u want is Sky digital or equivalent, then the €1399 Samsung 40" LCD-TV LE40R72B or the €1499 Samsung 40" LCD-TV LE40R74BD are what you should stick with or any equivalent & your digital TV should look great. I priced the LE40R74BD in Shaws Electrical in Athy today & it was €1499 also, so seems to be the average price for it, i don't see that model on Komplett.ie however.

Remember 1080i is HD Ready & is good for Sky HD TV, xbox 360, etc.
1080p is HD-DVD, Blu Ray DVD Ready, playstation 3 & all lesser formats.

Digital broadcasting in Ireland is only being rolled out in a test phase last i heard & won't be mainstream for a no. of years yet, i may be wrong here.

Anyone using analogue or cable tv be aware that a good tv does not improve the source signal.

    p.s. i'm not a Samsung salesman i swear!:p

    G:cool:
