I'll try to keep this short. Before Christmas my PC's hard drive started to go, I wasn't all that bothered about loosing music (data was more important) but I threw my music on my iRiver anyway. Bought a new hard drive, reinstalled XP etc. I dumped the music from the iRiver onto the new HD, organised some stuff and transferred to the iRiver again.

I'm having problems 'seeing' what's on my iRiver, when I connect it via USB it says everything is there but when I have it disconnected and look through it certain albums don't exist or the folders are empty. Any ideas what's going on? Why can I see them all via the computer but not when it's in my hand? I updated the firmwire today and even got the video thing working which I never even had before and didn't know was possible.

The fireware I got was from Dec '05, is there anything more recent than this? I don't really understand firmware, sorry, should update periodically with the latest thing or get them all, e.g. what I downloaded was version 1.29 or something, do I need to get the previous ones so they work together?

the 1.29 firmware should be fine, there might be slight newer firmware that does onthego playlists but not much else different
what probably happening is that the albums youre seeing as empty on the h320 have incompatible music in them, maybe wma or aac or something, that would be my best guess

you'll probably find the latest firmware linked to somewhere on misticriver.net if you really want it

yeah, they have 1.31 out on the korean site apparently. You get on the fly playlists and minesweeper (don't bother, get rockbox instead).

You're unlikely to have incompatible music though, the thing plays wma, ogg etc (not aac or FLAC). Maybe try hooking it up to the pc again, transfer all the music off it, format the hard disc (using the PC) and transfer the music back on. That might help and it certainly can't do any harm. It may take a while though...

Ta for the replies. I don't think it's to do with music formats that won't play because they were working fine before Christmas.

I formatted the player and put the stuff back onto it, didn't make a difference though. I wasn't sure how to format...under FAT or NTFS so I went with FAT, took a while to format then about 20 mins to load music back on. Same story, can see something like Pearl Jam but then when you go into it it's empty.
