    I am finishing an Arts degree this year and we considering my options for the future. I re-applied there for CAO and put down Film and T.V. production at IADT. Thing is you have to present a portfolio. The dates of assessment are the 20th of March for this course. I have not as yet really tried making my own moving pictures. However you can still present still pictures (i.e. SLR) as they can be applied across disciplines. I guess my real problem is what are the parameters one should stay within when presenting a portfolio. Number of photos? Size of photos? ect. I know film and T.V. is outside the brief of the photography forum, but based on reading different posts I understand that a few of you are in art based courses where you would have to present a portfolio and was wondering if you good people would have any insight. I also understand one or two people here are also in the process of applying to IDAT, if so could you help me out and hopefully I'll see you there next year.

    I'm working on my portfolio for the DIT photography degree, i got advice from the course lecturer, you should try emailing or ringing someone in IADT.
    For my portfolio i was told to do 2 or 3 projects or categories, like portraits or something about a subject, like farm life or kids in a skate park. Focusing your work into areas makes it simpler for the examiner to judge it, and shows you know your work.
    As as far as i know, no course takes a portfolio in a digital format, it has to be soemthing physical, so don't send in memory sticks or cd's. Prints, splash some cash if you can get bigger prints.
    And i think you can use anything for your portfolio, sculpturs (well photo's of them) drawings, not sure about prose though. look into it first.

    Digital is grand, as long as it is a print and not on a cd or something like the others have said.

    I'm applying to IADT myself next year. Pretty much ****ting myself over it, but what the hell... If I don't get in this year there's always next year!

    here's a little snip about the portfolio requirements from the IADT site:
    Portfolio Requirements

    Candidates should compile a selective portfolio, excluding early work unless there are some exceptional pieces. In all cases the portfolio should be easy to look through and should be well presented. An edited range of work showing evidence of commitment and quality should be presented.

    The Portfolio should:

    * include 20-30 pieces of work (these need not all be photographic, though 75% should);
    * indicate the duration of the candidate’s interest in photography;
    * include work illustrating the candidate’s level of experience to date;
    * include work illustrating the candidate’s level of technical competence to-date;
    * provide examples of any work published to-date;
    * include work which shows the candidate’s level of understanding of composition, light, texture and form when creating photographic images;
    * provide examples of both monochrome and colour photographs;
    * be presented to show the candidate’s work to their best possible advantage.

    The date for the portfolio is the 20th to the 23rd of march, best of luck!
