Nikon D200 - Is this a good price?

    Guys/Gals,

I'm looking to buy a D200 imminently and have been doing some price comparisons.
Some Net-based shops are coming in about €1400 upwards for body-only. I've just checked on kelkoo.co.uk and it's thrown up Jessops  selling it at £868 body-only (€1311-ish after conversion). This is the cheapest yet. And it's a bricks'n'mortar shop too...(Belfast anyway) (double  )

For those Nikonians out there, before I rush off to Belshaft with a bunch of fifties, would there be anywhere else with a better price I might have missed?

(First foray into digital, after years of film, and years of swearing I'd never go into digital  )

    Cheers,

    B.

UR Galaxy have it for about 1200euro delivered here,

So I suppose considering it is a normal shop where
you are looking at that price, I would agree with you
that it is pretty damn good. :)

I picked up a D200 body for €1349 last weekend in Jessops. They where cheaper by €100 than anyone else. I got the MB-D200 grip in Berminghams for €179. Again they where cheaper than everyone else. I could have got them cheaper online but I wanted them immediately like you.

Cheers lads. I flicked through a photo mag yesterday and it seems a lot of the UK stores who advertise there have the body for around the £850-870 mark.

And as you say, I want it sooner rather than later. I'm off to NY in July and B&H have it for about €1100 at the moment, BUT I CAN'T WAIT SIX MONTHS, GODAMMIT!!! I'll use that trip to pick up a few lenses :-)

    Off to reserve it now...

Yes as of this afternoon the D200 is in stock in Pixels South Anne St. for €1400 with a 2GB card.
    The MBd200 is €179 extra.

The sales Tax in NY is an additional 6% so don't feel so bad. It's 21% here by the way. Thank's to Mr. Brian Cowen.

And slightly lower at 17.5% up North. I found a Jessops in Newry so now I don't have to go so far. I got a 2Gb Sandisk from Amazon yesterday and a second battery for about €100, so I think I didn't do too badly.

When you take into account the cost of traveling up north and back plus the cost of the 2GB and the second hand battery. You will be paying 1410 plus travel and your time.

You could have got the lot in Dublin 2 for €1450. (except the extra battery would be brand new)

I can't get enough D200's. I'm not trying to flog you a camera.

    Best of luck

The cheapest D200 I have found while searching was on digitalwonderland.de ...we've all read the threads..

Failing that the next cheapest is probably digistor.co.uk or http://www.robertwhite.co.uk/nikon.htm#Label01D

Its not too bad on pixmania either (I think)

The price on digital world is in sterling and clearly states that it excludes vat. I pressume delivery as well.

If you apply the exhange rate and the UK Vat it comes in at 1340+ delivery
It comes with no memory so you are actually paying more than the price I quoted earlier.

All these price reductions must mean a D200s is imminent....think I'll wait a while :)

I will be meeting with Nikon in Vegas in a few weeks. I will ask the question. I will post the info when I get back.

Just be aware that if they release a d200s this summer we will be lucky to see stocks in Europe by Christmas.

The reason the price has dropped is because the stock is more readily available now.

Whats the reason behind Nikon traditionally having low numbers of Dslr's available? As Rudekid said once a camera is announced it can take months before it appears in any numbers at all.
The D200 is some piece of kit, but if I had to wait 4 months or more after it was announced I'd look elsewhere.

There are two reasons. The first is the risk factor. Nikon won't go mad making thousands of units unless the camera gets a good initial response. Secondly the first batches get soaked up in Asia and the second batches make it as far as the USA. Then Europe and the rest of the world.

The size of the Irish market is about equal to Manchester. So no matter how much complaining we do the Japanese don't care. They are too impatient. They want big numbers fast .ie Asia and the US.

Well folks, I went and got her this weekend. What a solid beauty.

Reason I didn't mind travelling up north for it is that's where I'm from (Armagh), and this weekend was a scheduled visit anyway. I love it when a plan comes together...

RudeKid - That's a pretty good price you have and you're right, it would have been the better option if I was completely Dublin-based.

Heh, I was messing about with the settings yesterday and the card I have gives 600+ pics on "JPEG normal" setting, and I changed it to RAW and the readout changed to about 200-ish. I immediatley thought "Aw! Only 200 shots in raw mode??!? Oh, wait, that's 170+ more than a roll of Superia..."
Funny how things are gonna change :-)

    Happy B.

    Enjoy.
Download the PDF brochure from nikon.co.uk.
It has some great pointers to some of the cameras best features.

Is it much different from the one included?

You got the manual I presume. The brochure is aimed at selling you the camera so it points out the advantages it has over older models. i read it yesterday. It's very impressive. I haven't read the manual yet so I don't know which is better.

Not that you won't need the manual.
