Hey, Has anyone been? Myself and a mate are thinking of going for a week's sun at the start of June. We're in our late 20s so hardly fossils. All we want is some serious sunshine, R & R and a bit of nightlife too. Is it completely tacky or worth going for the week? Any good hotels you can recommend? Thanks in advance, MF ;)

My wife and I went to Ayia Napa last year to a wedding. We're definitely not in the age group for clubbing so we were a bit apprehensive about it's reputation. We needn't have worried. Ayia Napa caters for all ages. Apart from the wedding we just wanted good sunshine, nice beaches, clean sea-water and reasonable restaurants. We found the best beaches we ever experienced: sandy, a gentle gradient, crystal clear water and as warm as a lukewarm bath. The sun is guaranteed during June July and August. We didn't have one dull day. The restaurants were fine - not as good generally as in Spain but OK. Ayia Napa itself is not exactly pretty. Whatever remained of the original village has long since been swallowed up by tourism development. There are a lot of clubs, pubs, restaurants and hotels. Tacky? Yes, but exactly what you'd expect in a tourist town in the Med. It didn't worry us as we were on the beach all day and only went up town at night to dine. The clubbing area is worth walking through at night for the sheer excess and noise of the place. We found Ayia Napa to be a very safe place. We saw no trouble at all. If you want to see a bit more of Cyprus hire a car for a couple of days and travel around. The road network is excellent. Nicosia is a very interesting and smart city - well worth a visit. As far as hotels in Ayia Napa are concerned I would recommend the Faros: it's near the beach, it's clean and quiet yet it's only a 10 minute walk up the street to the clubbing area. You can book it through Budget Travel. We were so taken by Ayia Napa and the Faros Hotel that we are going back there again this year.

Great place. Great nightlife. Nice restaurants.
    There are quieter places too.
Nissi Beach is fantastic - gentle sloping beach, spotless water and warm sea - Paradise!

Take a trip to near the border where you can view Famagusta ( Ghost tourist Resort unoccupied since 1970's). Do this at night its very eerie seeing the sun go down and no lights come on in the distance

Nissi beach is unreal, the watersports there are class.

Also beware,if ur booking the last 2-3 weeks in august, then theres gonna be loadsa 6th years (18/19) unlesss thats ur thing!
