    Hi
I'm looking for a PCI DVB-S card with:
    - A common interface card slot
    - Hardware mpeg encode/decode
    - Remote control

Can anyone suggest a card/cards that fulfil these?

The TechniSat SkyStar 1CI TV PVR seems close but does it have hardware mpeg encode/decode? Ie, can it capture to disk without too much cpu hit? In the specs it says "on board software decoding" but does that mean that its done on the card or by the cpu?

    thanks.

The encoding is done by the CPU in this case.

Not sure if this one would suit you:

Yep you need a Hauppauge Wintv Nexus (formerly called DVB-S), or a Skystar 1 (SS1) card.

Ive a 1.6 SS1 card with dual cam slots in a 3.5 inch floppy on my main pc which works fine.
Recording utilises no extra cpu power. Also if you use vplug for example it can uses the hardware cam to view certain stuff with no extra cpu load compared to a SS2 which does it all in software.

Imho watching pictures in hardware mode is also preferable to software.
An SS1/nexus with cam will cost you as much as a Dreambox 7020 with hard drive so would seriously suggest going down the Dreambox route (for many reasons outside the remit of this board) if you want to record stuff without being tied to Sky.
The Dreambox can also stream to your pc in perfect quality if you want to watch on the pc in another room which is pretty cool also.

    Great info, thanks guys.

The Skystar 1.6 SS1 card ... can't find that anywhere... can only find the 1Ci ... could you point me to a page on it??

What about the TerraTec Cinergy 1200? It doesn't have the ci slot but is it hw or sw decoding?
