Isservices won't allow pcs that are running windows vista to connect to the network.

That may present a bit of a problem as most of the newer laptops are using the vista os already built in

So don't buy a laptop with Vista installed.

I'm sure they'll support it reasonably soon, might be next October though...

Afaik they've had access to Vista for testing purposes for a while now, so you never know when they'll have it ready.

doubt they'll allow it until the first service pack comes out.

if your ordered in like the last week?! lol.... give them time to actually use it, train their helpdesk staff on it and so on... hardly expected it to happen overnight(saying they would support it without trained staff would be a massive headache...)

DCU won't be supporting Vista either - they said something about it not being compatible with some existing programmes (payroll stuff I think) that a lot of people use.

They agreed to be among the early adopters in Ireland, but they won't generally take things like this on between October and June - need the summer to work out system problems. So we should have it soon enough.

Yeah, I went to the launch/microsoft spiel thing for Vista in Croker awhile back. Saw John Murphy's face on a big screen in front of a packed audience (which I wasn't expecting) as, as xebec said, they were testing it.

I'd guess they'd allow it for the start of the academic year '07/'08.

    Really?

Even assuming all retailers are selling all machines with Vista preinstalled right now, how many students will buy a laptop this week? One?

How many laptops will be sold in one week by students?1
