    Hi All

I'm off to Poland on Monday, I love travelling but have a terrible fear of flying.
In the past i have taken vallium with a glass of wine, but feel really groggy and still a bit nervous on flight, i've tried it without the wine but i feel no different

Has anybody got any tips on how to enjoy a flight, or just how to calm myself down.

At the minute my stomach is in knot's just thinking about it.
I know the obvious answer is don't fly if it makes me feel this bad, but as i've said i love to travel, and i feel it's not fair on my husband to keep backing out of holiday's.

    Thank's

Don't be afraid to tell one of the check in agents or flight attendants, they will do their best to make you comfortable. You might get a seat more to the front or a bit more room. Listen to some relaxing music, something to keep you distracted and don't go overboard on the booze, infact stay away from it and drink some water. Remember that turbulence is just like a bumpy road, try to relax and move with it.
Arrive early at the airport, you don't want to be end up rushing around.

Any chance of getting a portable DVD player? You could get one of those and watch some movies to keep yourself occupied!

I dont like flying either. But what I find relaxes me is to focus on the destination and not the flight. Sounds strange.

I think about what I'm going to do at my destination, who I'm meeting etc and have found it to relax me more.

Remember you are only on the plane for a couple of hours, try to relax at the airport, get something to eat, wander around the shops etc.

I tell myself, especially in the days coming upto a flight if I'm getting nervous, that I'm not on a plane yet and wont be for a couple of days, so there's no point in getting nervous.

Just try to focus on other things before and during the flight. An MP3 player or portable DVD player might help.

I was on a plane once and everything was going fine then I heard a loud thud from what sounded like from underneath the plane. Luckily we were on our final decent probs around 12000 feet or somthing like that - it was the undercarrige door that had failed and the plane shook violently. a stewerdess fell over with the jolt. I will never fly again....
