Getting rid of Bravo, Living, Sci-Fi

I am in analogue country NW Ireland, I have Sky+, Multi-room, Variety, Kids, Sports. I'm aware of Parental Controls etc My problem.. need to get rid of Bravo, Living, Sci-Fi, Adult [completely]. Pin nmbrs are fine, but I'd really just like to block them for good. Rang Sky saturday. Changing from Variety [Bravo etc] will also take away RTE's, BBC's & that's not an option in this house..
Cld get BBC's, C4 into Other Channels but wldn't be able to record them on Sky+. Even if I did that I can't get the RTE's/TV3's into Other Channels?
Just a bit desperate now. To clarify, I would "like" to retain Sports, Kids, my RTE's/BBC's/TV3's and be able to record on to Planner. I really need the rest blocked otherwise I quit Sky & don't really want to go down that road preferably. Are there any solutions? I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks, Seahawkstd.

I'm guessing you have teenage kids who watch porn?

Take the card out when you go to bed is the best idea I can suggest.

BBC is not part of any Sky package. Sky agent lied to you about the BBC channels

You can lock any channel on the EPG so it can only be accessed by a "secret" PIN number.

To do this press the green services button then into parental control and then channel restrictions then highlight the channel you would like to block and press the yellow button to keep it locked 24 hours a day or press the blue button to lock it after 8pm, do that for all the channels you want to lock then press select and sky to exit.

When you go to a locked channel it will ask you for your PIN number before the channel can be viewed.

PS you must set up a PIN number first, which is option 1 in the parental control screen.

    Hope this helps.

    Yup, do as Digidec said.

Your PIN by default is the last 4 digits of your viewing card. I suggest you call SKY to have it changed.

I know what you're talking about; and the sheer pervasiveness of really objectionable stuff is frightening. In the end I took the view that just blocking the really objectionable channels wasn't enough - I had to stop subscribing, because, if I continued to subscribe, I was giving financial support to an organisation responsible for purveying pornography.

so you wouldn't buy a loaf of bread from a shop that had pornographic magazines on the top shelf?

You can block whatever you want on sky, you can choose not to see Adult channels if you want. Don't be so harsh on Sky. The options in the EPG for blocking content are fantastic IMO.

In fairness to Sky, they have no control over what channels decide to broadcast on the platform.

The only ones who have control over channels and what they individually air is Ofcom.

you should get rid of your tv as tv manufacturers provide the equipment to watch pornography

and in the case of Sony, supply the equipment used to record it too!

Are you a priest or something?

Sky hardly force people to watch porn, get over yourself.

It does sound like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Living has CSI on it!

TV channels in the UK don't show anything that hasn't been cleared by the
BBFC as 18 rated. If you find that "really objectionable", can I suggest moving to a country with a more strict censorship regime. Saudi Arabia might suit.

guys, OP is entitled to an opinion and we should respect that and keep to specific query which is limited to the parental lock option previously posted or disconnection of service which OP has opted for so this thread is over now surely

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,184 ✭✭✭✭L1011

The person who disconnected wasn't the OP.

sorry about that, but the spirit of post - off topic harsh comments re subsequent posters view - remains
I'm not a mod or anything but ye know what I mean...

Literally true... however Sky do control who appears on their EPG, which for many people is the same thing as on their platform. I know there's an important distinction, but most people don't know what "other channels" is for. However teenagers seeking porn would most likely figure it out in 60 seconds...

Regarding the original query, the OP is certainly entitled to their point of view, and many people would share that view. I'm more live/let live but then I don't have kids wandering around...

The PIN restriction is the best/only solution short of disconnecting. If the OP wants to take this further they could get some clarification from Sky on who pays whom...

that is.... some channels pay Sky to appear on the EPG, and if this is the case the OP can rest easy that they are not in any way giving financial support to the channel.

Some channels are paid by Sky to allow them to place the channel on the EPG and in this case some of your Sky subscription is funding the channel.

    Ix.
