    Hello

looking information on benefits or otherwise of using a lpg hotbox type fire instead of the traditional lpg gas fire.

Looking for comments on maintainance and efficiency. some sources quote 60 % for hotbox comparede to 35 to 40% for traditional gas fire

    thnks

A standard basket fire will send your expensive gas up the chimney quicker than you can say toopence.
A hotbox will have a better output ,and can be bought without the need for added ventilation in the room.(Which causes your room to be cold )

With an open fire ,you really should have a ceramic firebrick to give you some heat aswell.
I would go for a hotbox any day of the week ,over an open type.
We've got a pot belly stove running on Nat gas here and the heat would knock you out after about 15 minutes and the gas input is of a standard fire:)

Thanks for the advice. Its good to hear from an existing user. We will go for the hotbox option. I guess the pot belly is even better for heat ouput but we want the "fire place" look.

I've intsalled a hundred or so gas fires altogether and in the last three years I haven't installed an open gas fire once.
Your saving yourself money for the sake of a few extra euro now.

I have looked at a few hotboxes and like the Caribbean Glow Excel by Valley Forge. This box has input of 6kW for 3.5 kW output LPG. This is one of the better input to output ratios I have seen. Is this the average or is there better out there that I have missed.

I don't know the exact figures myself ,there are different size fires etc.
Most of the time people go for a nice finish and with the option of turning the fire off/on at the top ,instead of bending down in front of it.

Most of the fire brochures I have would be nat gas shipped and would probably need a special order for LPG.
I'll go through some brochures and give you website details when I get a chance tomorrow.

    Take care.
