Wall outlet socket for Sky+ and extras?

    Hi!

I'm replacing NTL with Sky+ and am looking for a nice neat solution. In the living room there is an existing NTL outlet box on the wall with a coaxial cable running up to the attic.

This is a "single?" sized outlet socket (i.e. half the size of a double electrical socket). But can I get a single sized outlet socket to allow the following...?

1x VHF coaxial socket (for Analogue / DVB?)
    2x Threaded F connector (for Sky+)
1x phone connector (for Sky box call backs)

...or do I have to start hacking away at the plasterboard? :)

I have seen some other outlet sockets here online but they are either double-sized or don't have the phone connector.

Any help or advice from pervious experience welcome.
    Thanks!

    That's a lot o'connectors on one small area. :)

You don't say if you want them to be screened or not.
I'd say it might be hard or impossible to get what you want off the shelf, especially with (I assume) an RJ11 phone connector.

No need to keep to the old style Co-axial socket for TV, just make an adapter lead with co-ax plug one end, F-conn the other & use labels to make it obvious.

Easiest might be get a double surface outlet box & mount this on the wall (over the old outlet opening). This gives you more chances to get what you want, but looks a bit messier sticking out from the wall.

Other option might be to try getting those modular office-type outlets, they can use different connectors on the same faceplate.

Final option is to modify an existing wall plate to do what you want, I managed to get an RJ45 + co-ax socket + RJ11 onto a single faceplate.

Personally, I'd just have all the cables running directly to the equipment, without connections on a wall plate. The less joints on cables the better, particularly with satellite.

Perhaps have a wallplate with a big hole with all the cables running through. Or a blank plate with the bottom lip broken off, so all the cables run from the bottom of the wallplate and into the equipment.

    Thanks for the tips guys.

What about triplexed cables? Sorry - but I have no experience of these. The plus point seems to be that you only have to run one coax cable to combine one sat feed with FM and Analogue / DVB.

My guess is quality could suffer considering the extra joints required.

    Hi,

You should be able to do this within a single gang socket with the Leviton modules. For the Telephone connector you can use the RJ45 connector in which a RJ11 telephone socket will fit.

    Have a look at

Triplexer wallplates are indeed an option, but personally, I would only use them as a last resort.

As you've rightly guessed, it can cause quality to suffer.
