Caught Hearns Vs Hagler last night on Youtube, what an amazing 3 rounds of boxing!!
Certainly would rank it up there with the best.
Honourable mentions : Buchanon Vs Duran, Ali vs Foreman.

I would have to say that for pure non stop excitement, you would be hard pushed to find better than Gatti V Ward 1....their subsequent fights too were amazing.

But My favorite is without doubt the Rumble in the jungle. The whole buildup, importance and significance it had on the heavyweight scene, plus the fact it was between the most charismatic athlete on the planet V an absolute monster that the division had never seen before. The fight itself was also fantastic. A hell of a lot of action, power punching and real grit and heart from both men. The 5th round is also my favorite round in ring history.

Other notable mentions are Leonard V Hearns 1, two amazing top flight welters in a real ding dong.

Hagler - Hearns for almost 9 minutes of pure hell

Oh I almost forgot, the Bowe V Holyfield championship fight in 92. Their first fight. Real skill, speed, power from two heavyweights and was pretty intensive for the whole 12 rds. Also rd 10 was an epic.

Chavez V Taylor, paddy's day 1990. Absolute fantastic fight with the most exciting end in recent years

Can't argue with any of the above, although the second Barrera/Morales had a very ordinary first 6 rounds.

There is a fight though that seldom gets mentioned that I absolutely LOVE.
I think it was 1994. A middleweight title fight between Jorge Castro (a real-life Rocky-type Argentinian) and John David Jackson (a fast speedy slickster Yank). Just in case anyone here hasn't seen it I won't mention the result, but it's an absolute cracker !!

Also, Arturo Gatti v Wilson Rodriguez/Gabe Ruelas/both Ivan Robinson bouts.
A career set of Gatti is about as good value-for-money a boxing fan can get.

Jose Luis Castillo Vs Diego Corrales was the greatest fight i have ever seen, but i must say my favourite was Felix Trinidad Vs Fernando Vargas.

two good fights marred by the tragic aftermath:
    eubank v watson 2
benn v mcclellan, amazing recovery frm benn after been blasted through the ropes in the first,
    ward v gatti,
    castillo v corrales
    moore v macklin

Bod, I love those two fights as well.

Another not often mentioned in other boxing sites but might be remembered here (for obvious reasons) is Dave 'Boy' McAuley's first fight with Fidel Bassa, around 1985/86. Ring voted it the best Flyweight fight of the 1980's.

It was a brutal back and forth battle with McAuley floored in the opening minute and barely surviving the round, then having Bassa on the floor multiple times and winning on points when finally getting KO'd in the 13th in what was possibly the last big title fight fought over 15 rounds.

I remember watching it and literally jumping out of my seat slugging the air as McAuley went looking for the third knockdown in a round which would have ended it under the 3 knockdown rule.

Dusted off an old boxing video of Collins Vs Eubank 2 last night. Very interesting battle, Collins who fought mostly counter attack in the first took Eubank on from the first second, in a humurous incident he went thru the ropes chasing Eubank in round one!
Eubank really was a rabbit in the headlights until around round 10 when in my view he took over picking a tiring, lumbering and open Collins off at will. Eubank proceeded to win the last two rounds as well and only lost on a split decision.
Maybe not a great fight in purists terms (Collins was way too awkward and one dimensional IMO) but for excitement and giving it to the English it was hard to beat.

Pryor vs Arguello - Amazing fight! My all time favourite!

    Honourable mentions:
Hagler vs Hearns - Best 3 rounds in history?
Chavez vs Taylor 1 - A classic (pity Richard Steele had to spoil it!)
Morales vs Barrerra 1 - Two warriors going toe to toe........brilliant!
Ward vs Gatti 1 - (see above)
De La Hoya vs Quartey - Great fight........12th round is breath-taking stuff.
Holyfield vs Tyson 1 - Who seen this coming?
Hamed vs Kelly - Great off the canvas action

yep good fights all.......but De La Hoya -Quartey?? it was a good match with a couple of exciting rounds but i found most of the fight a little disappointing excitement wise.
i think Corralles-Castillo was easily the most brutal, damaging war ive ever seen (it seems to have taken so much out of both) but for excitement the best ive ever seen was the fourth match between Bobby Chacon and Rafael "bazooka" Limon.its absolutely incredibe.
in fact most of chacons contests were entire highlight reels.his fights with Conerlius Boza Edwards especially.
easily the most exciting fighter of all time

I'm genuinely not nit-picking here (even though it looks that way) when I say that I always thought that while Chacon/Limon IV was a very good fight it was a bit overrated.

There was an incredible atmosphere and the very popular result made it a memorable occasion, but I was left thinking "Good, but I've seen better".

I actually preferred the second Boza Edwards fight which also left me with a big question mark over how to mark the first two rounds (Boza dominated and hurt Chacon for the huge majority of both rounds only for Chacon to floor him right at the end of each).

Chacon was a very, very entertaining fighter but "easily" the most exciting is pushing it. I find it awful hard to overlook Gatti and Matthew Saad Muhammad.

mine would have to be Ali / frazier 3 , the thrilla in manilla.
What a fight!! It had every thing.
The first morralles / barrera would have to be up there to!

Benn McCXlellan was probably the most memorable fight I saw live..

Ward Gatti and Hagler Hearns were special

    nobody mentioned torres-cotto ......
a real trade off,...... torres takes the massive underdog slot, and gives so much heart it not even funny.

or this round is pretty good,.from my favourite Holyfield.

So many great fights mentioned , some of my favourites are:
Castillo v Corrales I(my opinion the greatest fight ever .
    Morales v Barrera 1-3 , Ward v Gatti 1+3 , Ward v Burton(now known as Augustus) . Hagler v Hearns , Pryor v Arguello
Benn's fights with Eubank and the fight with McClelan .
Ali's fights with Frazier , Moore v Macklin and Moore v Jones III .

One fight that is unknown to a lot of people(because it was only shown on Canal + in France) is Mayhar Monshipour v Somsak Sithchatchawal for the WBA Super Bantamweight title . It was my fight of the year for last year and I would definetly suggest on trying to find this fight to watch and not spoiling the result on yourself before you do so .

Chavez Taylor was great as was Vargas v Trinidad , infact every fight mention so far has been epic .

Jorge Arce(always in great fights) v Nedal Hussein I was another very good fight .

also purple'n'gold Braddock was of Irish descent but was Irish-American not actually Irish(like so many good boxers from back then) but I'm sure you already knew that so I don't see why you called him Irish .

Anyone happen to catch Earl V Kazidas on the undercard of Harrisson V Sprott on Feb 17th. It was a lightweight contest that lasted 5 rds.
It was absolutely non stop action and power punching. Better even than Hagler-Hearns because a lot more punches landed cleaner in this fight.
    It was really that good

Ya I saw it , for me it wasn't as good as Hagler Hearns but still a great fight . What kind of ruined it is I knew before the first bell that Katsidis would win , he's just a different level than Earl .
