Am considering purchasing 2 return flights to Orlando including accommodation at the Ramada Plaza & Inn Gateway for 10 nights in July for €1600 approx.

Good price, or not? Never am too sure... Ramada Plaza is getting mixed reviews but hey, it's only a roof over my head!

And anything worth doing there? Besides the obvious DisneyWorld crap which the girlfriend will probably drag me along to.

I would recommend trying to stay around International Drive, preferably the southern side as it will make getting around a hell of a lot easier, especially if you're not driving. It'll be central to almost everything (Universal, Sea World, Shopping, Bars, Restaurants, Water Parks etc.), the only place out of the way would be Disney which as you quite rightly say is a load of crap, Universal and Sea World are much better if you must do the parks.

There's also a bus the goes up and down I-Drive all day which is dead handy, it goes from Universal on the North End to Sea World on the south.

    Cheers masterK.

Yeah, girlfriend's parents were there last year and stayed in a hotel on International Drive and seems like it's the way to go. Boss just informed me that you he thinks you need to be 25 to rent a car anyways!

If I remember correctly you can get a car if under 25 but you have to pay an additional premium, I reserved the car through an English based site, might we worth doing a bit of googling.

I stayed at the Wyndham on I-Drive, it was exactly half way along I-Drive which was as far up as I'd go as it gets a bit rough looking further on up.
