Blank Screen on Laptop Query

Would be grateful for any tips anyone might have.

I have a Dell Latitutde 110L laptop. When I boot up, the Dell startup page appears on the screen. However, by the time it gets to the page to input my password, the screen goes blank and stays that way. I have the laptop feeding into the my telly so am picking up the screen that way. However, this does not make life easy.

Has anyone any ideas on how I get the screen on the laptop going again?

    Thanks

So you can view the desktop on your telly but not the laptop LCD? Sorry if I got it wrong. Is it setup to use both screens? The telly might be set as the default. Check the display settings.

Check the 'function keys' for something that looks like two displays. Then holding down the 'Fn' key press that key and it should cycle through external and internal displays. Pause for a couple of seconds between each key press.

Check that in Display Settings (Desktop->Right Click->Properties->Settings Tab)
that teh lappy screen is set as the primary monitor and that if not, ''extend my windows desktop onto this monitor'' is ticked.

Thanks guys. AM having limited success. Got into Display settings and cliecked the box to "extend Windows to this monitor etc". It activated the laptop monitor but it is frozen on the bacground, ie the screen on the tv shows the desktop (and is identified as Monitor 1 in the display settings), while the laptop screen shows a static background with no icons and no cursor etc. This is idenfied as Monitor 2 in the display settings.

I guess the laptop screen should be the primary monitor?

    All help appreciated - thanks

Like degsie said ... look at the F8 key on the lappy ... you should see a blue rectangular symbol ... solid at the centre, with narrow spaces at either end

if you hold the FN key (beside CTRL) and press F8 you can force the laptop to cycle through primary and secondary displays ... pause each time to let the devices catch up

i don't know if you should be extending the display to the LCD tv ... that's normally used for two monitors side by side ... I'm guessing you want to have the same display on both the lappy and the LCD tv ?

Try cycling through FN + F8 ... one of the three settings in the sequence should force the same display to both the monitor screen and the telly

    good luck!
