Just wondering...what kit do people have - bodies, lenses, filters et al?

I know a few people here with some interesting pieces too, like the photo-sniper :p

Go on...lay it all out :D

Body: Canon EOS 400D, also 300D, but broken, waiting for repair, will be used as a backup... Also sometimes some Canon Digital Ixus, not sure about the model ;)

Lenses: Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 DC, Canon EF 75-300 f4-5.6, Canon EF 50 f1.8, Canon EF-S 18-55 f3.5-4.5 (two of these, one of which only works as manual focus lense).

    Flash: Sigma DG ST 500

Support: some cheap and compact tripod (don't remember the manufacturer). Also quite a large monopod, again of not expensive kind.

Little things: lens pen, few UV filters for different lenses, basic devices to cut paper and cardboard for passe-partout, Canon i865 printer, couple of camera bags.

Aargghh I feel all useless now.

    Film kit:
Olympus OM10 with a Makinon 30-105mm and a Vivitar 80-200mm. Can't remember the apertures on them. With them there's a skylight filter on the Makinon and a polariser on the Vivitar. I have a 50mm fixed Zuiko which was the kit lens for the camera. Great lens. Handful of Cokina filters as well.

Olympus AM100 point and shoot which, despite no zoom is a great, great camera.

    Digital kit:

    Sony DSCP200 (silver)

    Canon 350D
    18-55mm kit lens
    Sigma 70-300mm APO DG
    Sigma 50-500 APO

Circular polariser for the kit and medium zoom. The diametre on the 500mm zoom is 84mm I think and it's a dark lens. I'll know come the summer if I'll really, really need a polariser on it.

Flash gun which fits both the SLRs much to my astonishment.

three batteries for the Canon 350D. 3 CF cards plus one which got lost at some stage, without photos on it, thank God.

    What do I want:

10-20mm wide angle like Paudie has.
Water proof casing for both the medium zoom and the wide angle which probably means two waterproof casings
    fisheye would be nice
probably a 400mm zoom with a bigger aperture. The winter is killing me with the 500mm zoom, can do almost nada with it.
another spare battery and two or three more CF cards, 1 or 2 gig max.
A 30D body, or, if a 40D comes into existence with a sensor cleanor I'll consider it.
    a decent tripod.
a bigger camera bag that will take the 500mm zoom. I already have two customers for my current bag should I want to dispose of it.
Might consider a converter but am concerned about loss of sharpness with the 500mm zoom which is already not quite as sharp as the smaller zoom.

Incidentally I specialise in watersports, not celeb-baiting, in case you're wondering about all that zooming.

There seems to be more Canon than Nikon around. I'm only a beginner but I'll jump in anyway.

    Film: Eos 300v with 28-90 & 75-300

Digital: Eos 400D with 18-55 kit lens.
    Nikon Coolpix 7600.

    Manfrotto tripod.
    Assorted memory cards and batteries.

Wishlist: remote control (damn my shaky hands), wide angle lens.

    BEFORE I ventured into town this morning my kit comprised of the following;

    Nikon D50
    Nikkor 50mm f1.8
    Sigma 70-200mm HSM EX f2.8
    Sigma 105mm EX f2.8 Marco
    Tokina 12-24mm AT-X Pro f4
    Manfrotto 055PROB and 222 head
Lowepro Nature Trekker AW & Slingshot 200 AW
Various filters including Cokin P holder and ND8 grad

After I came home from town I'm now the proud owner of:

    Nikon D200 & MB-D200 :) (along with everything above)

I'd have to look at what it gave me. Thing is I have a couple of super super shots out of that 500mm zoom...so I'm reluctant to let it go. I just want sun, basically. Light. It'd be great.

I don't know if I am right or wrong but i always got the impression that converters tend to cost you in terms of sharpness...am I right or wrong? I know someone told me I could put a converter on the 500mm to bring it up to 1000 (okay more because of the crop factor on the 350D)...and I'm not sure it'd be worth that extra reach. I would have considered putting a convertor on a 400mm.

Doesn't matter for a while yet as a new laptop is slightly further up the shopping list than any of the kit above...

thanks for the idea though, I'll squirrel at way for further contemplation.

I'm on my first slr at the moment and this coming may I'll have it 2 years.

I hear there's some problems with a lot of L lenses lately. I have a Canon 5D, and I'd hate to see other Canon photographers being put out.

I'll tell you what, I'll go out of my way to test each lens that comes into your store for 2 days, for FREE. How's that for a deal...? :D

Is that because of a permanent price drop ??
I got quoted over the phone this week ,999 for a new 30D from a shop in Dublin. That was a price for stock that is due in and not present stock.

    Wetsuits,
    Flippers,
    Flipper socks,
SPL waterhousing with 10-22 port (which also appears to fit my Sigma at small zoom :) )

Not a bad piece of kit, save me from the cold. Oh and Calina, you get a standard housing for your body, then you can get different ports for the different zooms you want to use. i.e. different front covers, but these will usually cost a few hundred each :(

I had a feeling I was almost pro for a while, but since NME Ireland is finished up I'm making more money giving maths grinds than I am at photography :(

    oh yeah
    20D
    70-200 F4L
    10-22mm F3.5-4.?
    18-50 Sigma F2.8

I have a canon 1.4x as well, but like Calina said the drop in sharpness is shockin' even using it with an L, or maybe it's because I use it with an L that makes it more apparent, not really sure. All I know is that I need a 600mm L :P

Well I've only just bought my first DSLR. Picked up a 30D a very short time ago. I haven't even bought a lense for it yet! Thankfully a friend of mine has lent me one so I can at least use the thing. :)
Not sure which lense to actually go for but time and using the camera will help me make that choice.

well for less than €100 the 50mm F1.8 is very nice ...

I can also recommend the Sigma 18-125mm if you are on a tight budget ...

Leisnterman ,have you heard anything about those external media drives ??
The ones that act as external hard drive ,but come with a remote control so you can view the stuff directly on the tv .
