    hya's
First time post so go easy on me :P
Ok so I started out with the "orig.jpg" and after messing around with the levels and then doing a bit of an "orton" on it, things looked ok (ish).

On the final jpeg (smoothing_issues.jpg), I increased the levels/sat/etc. just for a mess around really, but then I noticed that no matter what I did I couldn't get the clouds on the right to be "smooth", the color is banding. Now I've tried everything to try and blend it in but no joy, at this stage its wrecking my head on what to do next time I might get the issue, so any ideas ?

BTW I'm newish to editing photos and running PS CS2

    Thanks

Your trying to create something thats not there in the original. The sky is lifeless and pushing things beyond the limits as your trying, will result in banding and all types of other things.

Yea I like the third one for some reason it looks like a plain picture went through a filter in photoshop, I like the way it turned out :)

Thanks guys, I was only messing around with PS just to try a few things out, I know it ain't exactly a masterpiece :P I was more suprised how far the clouds came out with the change in levels, thats all.
    Thanks

Very nice dreamy tree shot - I actually like the subtlety of the first one, but I can understand your wanting to play with it ;)

The whole banding thing has me stumped. I had awful trouble with this picture because of the smooth transition of shade in the corner. A friend of mine found a way to lighten it without the banding though, and he describes it here... thought that might give you something to play with? There's also a link to a hugely helpful website at the bottom called Cambridge in Colour, which is always worth a read.
