As much as 50 per cent of the world's pirated movies come from Canada, prompting the film industry to threaten to delay the release of new titles in this country.

According to an investigation by Twentieth Century Fox, most of the illegal recording, or "camcording," is taking place in Montreal movie houses, taking advantage of bilingual releases and lax copyright laws.

I will never watch one of those blody camcorder recorded movies, it just totally destroys the movie and I dont know how anyone can enjoy watching them.

Piracy is rampant in Toronto. I lived in Chinatown for a year and pirate DVD's showed up on the street before they'd appear as torrents. The speed was incredible, and it was also a very recent thing. In the last three or four years Canada has become a hot bed for film piracy.

Montreal also. There is no law requiring the police to become involved if someone is found with a recording device in a Canadian cinema. The worst that can happen AFAIK is that the offender is asked to leave.

    Link.
