Where's good for young people?

Here's my predicament. Within my circle of friends, many of them are off on trips to San Marino for the match next month, couples are going off on holidays with each other, so I was considering arranging a holiday for five or six days in a European city for the rest of us in July or August, as most of us would be 18 by then.

I'm at home with a broken leg at the moment, so I'm doing a bit of research. Zurich has emerged as an attractive option, only I'm not sure how much there is to do there. I wouldn't mind a day or two of sightseeing, but I don't know how interested the other folk would be. There's a casino near by and a large indoor water park, I know these would go down well so we'd definitely include those two. I've found flights and six nights accomodation for €475, so that's a pretty good price.

But would Zurich be a good place for seven days for six or so 18 year olds? Any thoughts on where else might be a good place to visit for around €500? Any help would be appreciated!

It is quite expensive, say for meals and so on (around 40-50 CHF), most of the time I would say around 1/3 more than Dublin, increasing as you go to more exclusive areas like the ski resorts. There are a few good clubs, but the city is tiny remember - only 300,000 people. One big advantage is that yuou can get great rail everywhere and see loads easily, including 3 hrs to Innsbruck, a little longer to Milan, etc., . Its a good connection point. Locals are bit more relaxed in geneva; zurich is a bit serious. But, you can get excellent tours taking you all over the place there, to Lucerne, JUngfraujoch, etc., scenery is stunning, but all within a few hours of zurich itself

That said, theya re very friendly. I do remember paying CHF25 for a jack and coke in a bar though. Bring money and lots of it.!!

EDIT: just checked you said you are going to be 18. The age group there is much older than Ireland, you would find mostly late twenties+ in bars and clubs.

Perhaps Berlin or someplace like that would suit better

I would suggest somewhere like Krakow, Berlin or Prague... much more to see and do within the cities themselves especially for your age group. Prague and Krakow are really cheap as well, while I think you would find zurich a bit expensive.

I would recommend Prague too, very cheap, lots to do and good food and beer!

There's a group of 16 of us travelling to Riga in early April for 6 nights, should be fun :) Have heard some good things about the place and prices are supposed to be good too. We've got our flights and accomodation for just over €200 for the trip (Ryanair and youth hostel) so there are definitely cheap options available!

Ran the Zurich idea past a few people and it does sound pretty expensive, even if getting there isn't. Prague looks good, the accommodation seems pretty reasonable too. Wasn't initially thinking about sunny spots, but are there any good locations by the Med? Budget have a week in Palma Nova, Majorca for €470pps in August although the accommodation is a bit basic, while Stein have what seems like a good spot at Benalmadena in the Costa del Sol for under €500. Any thoughts?
